That post did absolutely nothing for proving a point what so ever.

When I see people struggle just to send their kids to school fed, it really rubs me the wrong way knowing these millionaires in the NFL can't come to some agreement to keep the working class happy. Imagine how awful Fall would be without football... It would be very depressing I think.

The players are the people who generate money for the NFL, and they aren't getting a fair percentage of what they're bringing in. That's one thing baseball does correctly.

They're sacrificing their health and future playing in the NFL, and they are not compensated like they should. They should be making at least as much as baseball players. Their career span is shorter, and it is a much more dangerous sport. I am totally behind the NFLPA here.

NFL players have a one-in-a-million talent level. They deserve to be paid as much.
It's so dumb when I hear people saying "Teachers work very hard, and they don't make millions!" Yeah, but you don't have to be a natural freak of nature to be a teacher. And there are well over a few hundred people in the world that can teach, not so for the NFL.

Yes, people have lost their homes, but those people are not NFL players. Everyone should be compensated fairly, and NFL players are not. It has nothing to do with auto workers, etc. where companies are losing money, and have to cut their staff.

Organizations, owners, investors are making tons of money, and the people doing the work to bring in the dollars are not paid accordingly.

One in a million talent should get paid one in a million salaries.

Many NFL players do not end up filthy stinking rich for the rest of their lives, contrary to popular belief. Yeah, they live large for their 5 year career, then they are stuck the rest of their life with brain injuries, and the money they made dwindles.

I'm almost always 100% in the players corner, but I smile as I write this because you and I both know playing in the NFL is a privilege and not a right. These players could easily chose another job, but they want the money so they get the other stuff that comes along with being rich from a game. I actually had the skill set to go Pro, but it was more important for me to be able to swing my kids around, and bend down to pick them up than it was to keep playing football. I can tell you for a fact, the NFL does not have all the best football players in it. Several people I've encountered in my playing days could teach some of these current NFL players a thing or two. I had nothing but injuries my entire time in high school and college, yet still played. My daughter was born my senior year of high school, and I was noticing because of football, I rarely saw her. I was busy practicing, rehabbing, or traveling to get to take advantage of seeing her grow up from an infant. For me it was either football, and the cold road, or getting healthy and being there for my first born. Now I run an outerwear company, and have no regrets. I'd say 80% of the NFL's players have no choice but to play football. It's either that or work at Best Buy. Luckily I had a choice, and am pleased with my decision to leave the game of football. Years later I'm all healed up, and feel that I could probably get back without having many of those same injuries, but I'm having too much fun being a dad and playing with my kids after 5 o'clock everyday.

Those are good points. But if your company made tons of money solely because of the work you do, and gave you an unfairly small portion of what they made, would you be wrong in demanding more? (I know you run the business, but just for example)

By your theory, any employer could say "Having this job is a privilege, not a right, so I'm setting the wages exactly as I see fit."
That would not go over so well.

Well I do make more for the company than I get paid. But there's a thing called responsibility. If I take out what I put in, then we may go under soon after. I have to ensure the future of all my employees (and their families counting on them). By taking out what I've put in (dollars wise), we wouldn't be able to buy material, and supplies that we need for everyday business. I have a set salary I give myself. If we sold a few more millions in goods I wouldn't cut myself a check, I'd reinvest in our company.

I do understand entirely what you're saying, but that's what commissions are for. Here's an easy solution to your thought, just write commissions into every contact. I'm pretty sure most NFL contracts have that tho, they're called incentive bonuses.

Why are you hating on players for wanting more benefits? I don't think they are selfish for wanting more.. they are just humans and Americans. They absolutely deserve more disability benefits after their careers are over.

I just thought your whole post was whiny and jealous.

And if there is a lockout you will NEVER watch the NFL again, ever? Good luck with that.

Do you think the NFL conspired to have the CBA expire when the economy just happened to be bad? Do you think the NFL can forecast how the US economy will perform with that accuracy?

    Easy bro chill out

I agree they do deserve more disability benefits especially the 3-4 year special teamer guys. But for the most part I would say these guys are pretty well taken care of. I am not jealous at all, maybe alittle bitter because all I see from most of these guys is greed. Yea, I could easily not watch the NFL again, with all the drama that keeps getting reported it is taking away from the game along with the TERRIBLE officiating this year has brought.

The last point, come on now.

This kind of thinking cracks me up, and at the same time makes me sad. Did you know that the player made about 70% of revenues last year? With unions it's never enough, they solely exist in for blackmail that's it. When is enough, enough, when the players take home 99% of all revenues? No, with unions enough is never enough. Just another union ruining things strictly out of greed. I'd love to see these players try to get real jobs, please.

I agree that the players healthcare plan should be boosted big time, they should get lifelong medical care at no cost to them. But they already have amazing pensions and make incredible salaries.

Believe me without owners there would be no NFL. And trust me there will be no problem with owners finding good players that will play for what they want to pay. There is an entire league in Canada that would be more than happy to play in the NFL for what these players make, not to mention all of the good College players that didn't get drafted.

Also remember, that these owners employee many, many people. From the coaches and players to scouts, front office staff, parking attendants the list goes on and on. Without ownership there will be many, many people out of work. As much as it would kill me to not watch football next year and beyond, I think the owners need to take a stand here and crush this union. But they need to take care of the players' medical needs with a really good healthcare plan. If they can take care of that I don't think the players have a leg to stand on.
