i like your thinkin on "holding off" but my concern is will the viable coaching options be gone, forcing his hand into keeping fisher? i think if we dont hear anything by the end of the week we wont for quite sometime. i also think the longer it goes the chances of fisher leaving go down.

here's my next concern... say fisher stays and maybe even young ( doesnt really matter for this example) and they stay locked out until close to the season beginning. then we go on to have another 6-10 type seasonor even an 8-8, will bud and company say " well the off season was a mess, we need another year". basically i just think if they dont make a move soon they never will, always some stupid reason to not pull the trigger

It depends on who the new coach is and what he wants to change. A younger guy like Harbaugh might be more willing to come in and not make wholesale changes to the schemes and coaching staff. When Tomlin went to PIT he adapted to their system. I think the Titans are in a similar boat to the Cowboys - just a change in scenery at the top and a change in attitude at practice made a huge difference (even with a backup QB under center).

Now someone like Gruden or Cowher has his system deeply rooted, with a pool of guys he'd want to bring in. It's up to the team to adapt to them.

If Bud acts soon on Fisher, and lands a guy willing to fit into our existing system in the event of a lockout then he can get up to speed by the time an agreement is in place. The QB question can be more easily worked out later. You can't bring 2 coaches in to compete for a job, but you can do it with QBs.

this is sort of my feelings as well. Like whats the point of keeping him? If he stays, VY is gone, we are sort of "rebuilding". We have a horrible defense that is alot of players away from being great. If we pick up a journeyman QB, say Collins 2 or 3 years ago, our defense will not "allow us to win with a bad QB" like in 2008. though with that said, the expectations going into next year wouldn't be that high, and thats a strange scenario for a coach who is coaching for his job is it not?

You don't know what impact it'll have as far as implementing a new offensive scheme or teaching a new QB that scheme.

I'm really coming from the idea of Bud not cornering himself. In deciding whether or not to keep Fisher another season, why not talk to whoever is representing Harbaugh who is supposed to be making a decision today? Some may say talking to other potential coaches is in poor taste as long as Fisher has the job but I don't see it that way.

Both have contracts which end at the close of next season. It's easier then than now to make a change. Every team will have the same limited camps, etc. so the playing field is level in regards to excuses.

I'm guessing that Adams was ready to let Fisher go at the end of the season, and then since has gotten a flood of opinions that he needs to keep Fisher and get rid of Vince. So now he's paralyzed and doesn't want to give up on Vince but doesn't want to go against the seemingly unanimous advice of his staff.

If that is correct I think TJ is probably right. He will want to wait it out and buy time hoping that both Fisher and VY can work out, or at least wait to see how the CBA shapes up. It's a bad offseason to be shopping a new HC and a new starting QB because of the labor agreement. Shame because I think there are some interesting coach prospects out there from the young crop of Rivera and Harbaugh to the old guard in Gruden and Cowher.

I don’t understand the problem . You sack Fisher because he hasn’t met the standard demanded , hire the best coach on the market and allow him to decide if he wants VY as his QB.

    What the problem?

    Where to begin...

There are many problems with this line of thinking, but the most obvious one is that the new coach will be forced to keep Vince Young. If the new CBA is not in place until late in the summer (which is what a lot of people expect), then it will be too late to get another QB at that point. It will also mean that there were no training camps and no mini camps. This would make it impossible for the new coach to teach the team his new offense and defense. They would have to learn everything in a week or two. Considering Vince Young has been in the league four years and apparently still doesn't understand the offense, it would be next to impossible for him to learn a whole new offense in a week or two. The season would be a disaster, probably.

Where is this thought that Bud will FORCE the new coach to make VY the starting QB. VY wasn't the starting QB for all of 08, the first 3 or 4 or so games of 09 without Bud saying a word about forcing him to start because the team was winning. Bud cares about winning more than he cares about VY doing it. He just wants there to be at LEAST an open competition with VY getting a fair chance to be the starter.

Are you kidding me? What system takes more than 2 weeks to introduce? No offense can be entirely put to work in 2 weeks, but you sure as hell can build a game plan with 2 weeks preparation.

It won't be the easiest thing to do, but it's surely not impossible.

Yes, a coach can build a game plan, but could Vince implement it within a two week period? I'm leaning toward NO.
