SoCalTitan867, welcome to the forum. Glad to make your acquittance. Thanks to CheeseheadTitan for clarifying my position and to Alex for saving me explanation. Yes, make no mistake, I'm not "bashing" VY. I'm highly critical of him but I feel he's given me just cause. SoCalTitan867, you ask me if I've ever played a sport? Really man? Did you just ask me that? Is that "grown man" reasoning? Really?

In the course of playing a variety of sports growing up, I never tore my flexor tendon, but as I understand it as it has been discussed here on this forum by an actual MD whom I've met personally, it is a very serious and painful injury that completely impairs one's ability to grip which is imperative to throwing. Now think about it. How are you going to tape a thumb on a qb's throwing hand with that injury? You don't. Even if you did the guy just came back from a fumble induced injury and just sustained another in the course of fumbling. Sometimes it's just smarter to go down, but that's another discussion altogether. Point is, no coach is going to tape that hand up and tell him to go hand the ball off all day.

Kerry Collins has been playing since before the Miami game with the same exact injury to his middle finger. Torn Flexor Tendon. They've been draining it before the games. Now explain why Vince couldn't gut his season out with that injury, but Collins can.

Probably because Vince would give it no time to heal since he'd be sucking on it the majority of the time.

Right. He's a crybaby because he wanted to play through his injury.

    Point remains the same.

Was discussed in another thread a while back, but I think the key difference is the ability to be able to grip the ball. Definitely a difference between middle finger and thumb injury for a QB.

Now, I think Vince "could" have put off surgery and played through the injury. I don't think he would've been anywhere near as effective as he was in his good games this season. I also wonder if he would've fumbled a great deal more. (this is of course all my guess)

Point doesn't stand at all, first of all try to grip a football with an injured thumb and try to grip a football with an injured middle finger. Not even remotely close to a similar injury. Secondly, I feel Vince has a pretty well documented body of work that leads me to believe hes not a tough football player.

Hmmm, maybe it would have been better had Fisher done just that. At least Vince wouldn't have had an excuse to curse him and act like a little boy. :D

Somehow I doubt that...if he had taped him up (against the advice of team doctors as documented on the "Fisher mic'd up" video) and put him back in, then, according to some of the fanbase, he would have been at fault for:

    1. Needlessly exposing our star player to additional injury, and..
    2. Holding our star player back by being way too conservative in his play calling, even more so than previously.

I think Fisher should go too, but this was really a no win situation for him with some of the fanbase IMO...

Also, my guess is that VY would have taken himself out at some point, when it became obvious to him that he could not pass, which would have revved up the very anti VY fanbase as well.

Just a bad situation that both parties made much worse by their respective actions IMO.

He's not a tough football player? He's not getting the chance to prove it. That doesn't make any sense.

It would be difficult to grip a football either way, hence Collins's awkward throwing motion. Vince threw some decent passes on the sideline. At minimum, he could have been as effective as Collins.

I feel your talking like this thumb injury is the first time he has ever been injured in his career.

I also disagree with your assessment of the middle finger vs thumb when it comes to gripping and throwing, the middle has three other fingers to use to add extra pressure when the middle can't apply much itself. The thumb is a stand alone part of holding the ball that needs to have a lot of pressure applied in comparison.
