He's CLEARLY slower than he was last year.

Linebackers didn't all of a sudden get that much faster. They're taking angles that CJ exposed last year, but this year they're getting him before he can get going.

Even on his long run last night he looked slow. He let up midway through- but he doesn't have that quick burst and acceleration like he did last year. He's certainly not the fastest man in the NFL right now.

He's had plenty chances to hit HRs this year and just hasn't gotten in to gear as fast as he used to.

It could be fatigue? But it's something...

I don't see this at all. He's just not getting the same openings and lanes as he was last year. When has CJ had an opportunity to break a big one and not done it? Theres usually 2 LB's hitting him as soon as he starts to get to the second level, theres not that many opportunities I think hes missed besides the run in Dallas where he went left and got tripped up by 3 guys but if he had gone right it would have been an easy TD.

The only other thing I can think of is that hes dancing around a little more because blocking isn't as good as it was last year so he doesn't have that same speed out of the backfield because he has to instantly worry about avoiding a defender whereas last year most of his big plays he got past the line in a quick burst.

Honestly I see what Wayne is saying, last year CJ looked like he was shot out of a cannon on every play, now it looks like he's either really hesitant, or has already lost a step.

Wasn't his thigh hurting him? Could explain some. I think he is fine though overall. He is on pace for over 1500 yards and 18 touchdowns. CJ didn't really get going until after week 6 last year and we pretty much had nothing to play for except pride. I imagine the play calling is different for a team that is still in contention than it is for a team that has nothing to lose.

Could it be that he looked slower because he was battling a thigh injury?

A fresh C.J. is a scary C.J.. Luckily our bye is coming up, he'll get a chance to rest those legs.

Luckily our season is divided equally with the bye week in Week 9...CJ should be ready to go in the 2nd half.

On that TD run, it was clearly fatigue, yet they still had no chance at catching him.

There is no creativity in the run game. Too many runs straight up the middle etc. He's not eddie george. That's the issue. Not CJ, IMO.

I haven't even read this entire thread but I just wanted to mention how ridiculous it is that CJ asked to go back in the game late in the MNF blowout. And it's even more silly that Fisher let him. I can understand CJ wanting to backup his big talk. But Fish needs to do what's best for the team. And what's best for the team is not risking your star player in garbage time of a blowout. Also just shows that CJ is more worried about personal accolades and his next contract than he is about what's best for the team and the rest of the season. You can put any kind of spin on it you want but the bottom line is it was a selfish move. It would obviously be different if we were losing or the game were close. But up by 20 with mere minutes left in the game and you're asking to go back in? Come on dude.

And I actually agree with Deuce. CJ definitely isn't slow or washed up or anything like that but I think it's pretty apparent that he's not quite the same this year, even in the open field. Oh well. He's still faster than everyone else on the field more often than not. I just hope we keep giving Ringer a couple series from here on out to give CJ a breather.
