How do you know they were NYC cops?

I'm sure it was filmed where you said. However, there is no set city for the movie. It's never mentioned, and you're not really supposed to know where they are.

It was like a more extreme, brutal version of Gotham from Batman Begins... Just an unknown, hell hole of a city falling apart.

Yeah, Se7en was in a totally fictionalized (or at least an unidentifiable one) city.

Yeah, that bothered me the first couple time I watched it. I was like, "where in New York can I find that desert?" Then I realized I had just assumed they were in New York.

The "Sloth" scene scares the crap out of me every time I see it. One of the most shocking movie moments I can think of.

In the movie they don't physically say they are NY cops but there are enough visual NYC highlights to put 2 and 2 together. The library, the old 42nd street sin district. I believe they reference "driving down to DC" etc. They eat in a pizza joint that says NYC on the glass. Even if it's not supposed to be NYC it's clearly an eastern metropolis setting, where you'd be hard pressed to find a desert in 30 minutes...

I think you're ignoring the desolation that is New Jersey.:brow:

Saw The Human Centipede.. Wasn't as offensive as advertised. More inadvertent laughs than gross-outs actually. The evil German doctor was cast perfectly - as were the two bimbettes, who could have avoided ALOT of grief by simply driving off on the rim of the flat tire - d'oh!.

Been re-watching lots of old Paul Naschy stuff lately and caught this little gem of a film...
Horror Rises From The Tomb - has a little bit of everything: 60's zombies controlled by a decapitated head (Naschy looking alot like Jack Black), boobies, executions, boobies, hangings, boobies and a very evil European countryside.. Good stuff.

Not a big fan of Spanish '70s horror (still think American and Italian is pinnacle for that era), but I might check that out on your recommendation.

I dig the 70's Naschy stuff and the Blind Dead flicks.
