I have decided that I will be getting a 55" Samsung TV sometime in the near future.

Would you guys go with the LCD or spend a few hundred bucks extra and get the LED? Is the difference that big?

I have been very pleased with my 32" Samsung 720p TV, but it's time to upgrade... when I bought that, the guy really tried to convince me to get the 1080p 32" TV. There is literally no difference in picture quality. Maybe there is, but it's not noticeable, at least with a 32".

I will likely wait 'til around Black Friday/holidays to buy it.

LCD is the way to go. LCD TV's are better for fast moving action like football games. That's what I was told anyways. I was thinking of getting a plasma, but then learned plasma's are better in a dark room for movies (which I don't have). My living room has six giant windows that make it difficult to black out. LCD is also good for viewing at an angle. My son use to throw toys at my 47" Vizio and color on it too, it's held up to him so I'm happy about that.

Plasma all the way. Much more realistic colors and depth. All that talk about them not being good in sunlight is hogwash. Go get a Panasonic, though. Not a Samsung.

^ agreed. Samsung clearly looks the dullest when you compare the brands in the big box store.. I have Pioneer Elite (plasma) in my home theater and a coupla LCD HD flats (panasonic, and an LG that the wife won playing poker :) ) and they all deliver the goods on Sunday..

My rule of thumb is to get something with the best picture at lowest cost ratio.
Most people will be looking at upgrading in a couple of years anyway.

I have a Toshiba 42" LCD I bought at Sam's for $600. The TV looks great.

I won't be getting a plasma. I know they're a lot better than what they were a few years ago, but I've narrowed it down between LCD and LED.

No love for LED? I thought they were supposed to be top-notch.

When I compared my current Samsung TV to all others, it was miles and miles better. What is THE VERY BEST brand for an LCD or LED TV? Samsung has always looked the best to me, so I'm surprised to hear someone say it looks dull.

????? Plasmas have always been better than LCD. I don't know a whole lot about LEDs, except they look pretty in the big box stores. Save yourself some cash and get a superior television, like a Pioneer Elite or KURO plasma. You won't have to "upgrade" after a couple years, like you will with the other two. Or, get a Panasonic like I said, and save some real money and still have a superior picture. I've got a Panasonic 480p plasma that I will put up against any HD LCD.

You seem to know what you're talking about. I, admittedly, have no clue about TVs, whatsoever.

I think I made the right choice with my TV, considering the price and that, at the time, it was for my dorm room.

I now have a much, much bigger room. A ton of light comes in here though... I have huge windows covered by beige curtains that don't do a great job of keeping light out.

I've heard people complain about the weight of plasmas and that there's significant burn-in problems... and I have a tendency to leave something paused for too long... Also heard that when playing Madden, since the scoreboard stays in the same spot, it can permanently burn-in. Maybe this is all BS or just partially true. Idk.

I just want the best TV. I honestly don't care if I have to pay a ton. It will pay off in the long run.

I compared plasmas to LEDs in Best Buy last night... no comparison. LED was infinte times better. Maybe it's just a preference, but that's the way I'll be going. Samsung looked the best, so I'm pretty confused by those saying not to get Samsung or that they look dull.

I expect to be able to get the 55" LED for around $1300 on Black Friday... or maybe even less in February or March.

It's all about whichever one you prefer.
Though I can attest to the fact that I've had my Plasma since 04 w/o a single burn-in issue.
