Except when they can't play in bowl games.

If you were in his shoes, what would you want your resume to say in 3 years:

Setting NFL records as Titans RB coach.

    or

The OC at USC that led them into decline.

Not that it would be his fault, but you know people get wrongly blamed in those situations all the time.

Alex....why are you so sure there's a decline? The talent will still come. a redshirt season lessens that bowl impact for a commit. Kids want to be on TV and get drafted to the NFL. They'll get the exposure with a major program like SC (even on probation), moreso than UT. Now they just offer scholarships to less, but better recruits. Remember, USC is a private school with a ton of wealthy supporters. I'm sure that there will be plenty of walk-on's who can afford tuition or others who receive academic or other sports scholarships.

You mean bribes? I don't doubt it. And I have a hard time understanding how you can say no one transferred after they lost scholarships and bowl eligibility, it was like every week someone else was leaving, hell one of them even transferred to UT.

Dude.......you asked about high school rejects (your words), did you not? Do some homework as to who the transfers were and the penalties imposed on the university. Not one transfer was a starter or even a contributor for that matter. But you grabbed a few headlines without looking at the context. They only lost 1 recruit from their Rival's #1 class of 2010... Seantrel Henderson..... who never attended a day of school at SC and ended up going to Miami instead. The reduction in scholarships doesn't start until the 2011 recruiting season.

The only transfers have been 2nd and 3rd stringers who have had disciplinary problems in the past or want more playing time. If you don't understand the NCAA rules.... only Juniors, Seniors or players in their 3rd "active" year are eligible to transfer without sitting out a year and they must go to a non-Pac10 school.

So, to keep it on topic, Kennedy Pola still has a killer stable of young RB's, WR's, a great O Line and a potential Heisman QB to coach for the next few years.

I think you are in denial. The loss of scholarships will have a big impact. The inability to go to bowl games is not good. And while I'd be psyched you added Monte Kiffin, there is still a real question to Lane's ability to run an offense.

And I wonder, how long of a window will Lane Kiffin have? If things do go south due to scholarship loss, prestige loss (no postseason), how quickly will fans turn on him? Because if he is out in 3-4 years because of mediocre success, then what? Basically the same position UT would be in now (albeit with a better recruiting base to work with).

And college football is cyclical. I don't expect Michigan to stay crappy forever, and I don't expect USC to stay on the top of the PAC10 forever. At least the pac didn't expand with Texas and Oklahoma or you all would've been in real trouble.

Goes without saying that Kiffin can just Foxtrot Oscar.

Playing devils advocate here but I am still unclear why Earnest Byner was ditched in the first place, unless he did something suspect behind the scenes it just seems odd.

A neutral could say what has happened to the Titans is karma for their handling of the situation when Pola was put in place. Had Byner been the one approached I think we would have seen a similar response to the quote below:-

"Later Saturday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that Kiffin originally offered the job to Vikings running back coach Eric Bieniemy, who turned him down and notified Vikings coach Brad Childress on Thursday that we would stay with the team. One of the reasons that Bienemy chose to stay was because the team is scheduled to open training camp Friday."

Having said this. when the bubble bursts I hope Kiffin is fired in the most humiliating way possible.

If I was trying to steal a coach from Fisher, I would have done the same thing. How many times has fisher denied another team the right to talk to our coaches. I don't think it's fair that he blocks our coaches from opportunities. And I think he'd do the same block every chance he gets. So while I hate Kiffin, I totally get why he did it. Jeff Fisher's shadow of himself is too big, he wants to control everything, and this was Kiffin's way of taking control of the situation.

Screw Fisher on this one. Nobody from the FO ever gave Bulluck a call during the off-season. What kind of "courtesy" is that Fisher?

It's not Fisher's job to call Bulluck about his contract. Bulluck already said he wasn't going to consider any kind of hometown discount. Love Keith, but $2.5 Mill for someone who might not even be able to play this year is asking alot.
