RollTide, I'd normally argue this modern NFL we see today is more favorable of passing teams, but then I remembered the Forceout rule: The forceout rule has been eliminated as of 2008. A player who receives or intercepts a ball must land with both feet inbounds NOW. This affords the receiver and defender equal opportunity to complete the play. So no more pushing the WR out and him getting the catch because the refs referred to the Forceout rule.
So there, you now have one thing helping your argument that we're NOT seeing pass oriented teams flourish more. However, with the dominating Patriots, Saints, Colts, and Cardinals, it is hard to ignore the top teams lately pass more.

Bet on this: The Titans and Panthers will do well in 2010 running!

On paper, you'd think that running teams would do better in the playoffs... Such is not the case.

The difference between a passing team and running team is that a running team can't play from behind and when they get ahead they get too conservative let the other team get more possessions.
