It's a beautiful film in which James Cameron has created a whole race of humanoids who are very interesting and make you want to know more.

They created a 500 word language just for the film.

I would like to see the na'vi in another feature film they are pretty cool.

I like movies that involve cultures that are very different from our own like Apocalypto which portrays the rain forest Maya at the time of the collapse of the great city states.

If he wants Cameron can make the na'vi an entire money making franchise beyond the typical toys and games. How about a Na'vi romantic comedy?

Yep that's what I was thinking.

What killed this movie for me was how cliche so many characters were. BUT, I didn't see it in 3d I watched it on blu-ray.

I strongly agree with this. Anything revolving around the flying was easily the most entertaining part of the movie for me.

What was the deal with the "floating mountains"? Was there ever a decent explanation for how they exist?

yes... the screenplay was written by a Yes fan who likes their Roger Dean album covers.

From the last link in this post:
    :grrhee:

An enormous amount of the Avatar world seem directly taken from Dean art... the floating jungles, the flora, the dragon, etc... I guess he just figured everyone would be too burned out to remember the 70's and one of it's top artists. Hope somebody sues for it.

I haven't seen the movie but the trailers kept bashing my skull in with the Obvious Reference club.
It should have been called Dances With Wolves In A Roger Dean Painting.

This thread title is misleading... I thought I was opening up a Damian Williams thread.
