Jesse, I like the fact that you acknowledge that VY is an asset....progress is good.

This is a tough one. A contract is a contract, and CJ signed his 2 years ago. That being said, he had a season last year that only 5 other RBs in HISTORY have had. Running backs do have a shorter career expectation than other positions, so the 30% rule, while absolutely appropriate in the vast majority of cases, may not be appropriate here. All last season, especially towards the end, I was hoping that we would sit CJ, because I saw how it affected others (Terrell Davis, Larry Johnson especially), in the years following their 2K seasons.

Asking CJ to repeat his 2010 performance BEFORE getting a raise (or some other bump in pay) is not reasonable, in my opinion. If there were some way of getting him a performance bonus (above and beyond the contract) for last years' performance I would definitely be in support of it.

Not that I don't think CJ deserves more money but he is making 2.4 million a year if you add in the upfront money that's a lot different than everybody saying he is only making 500,000. Nobody talks about AH making 3.6 million this year but that's what his base salary is.

He's making half a million. He made that bonus money already, therefor it shouldn't be counted towards this upcoming seasons pay. Dudes under paid like whoa. I'm going into that Giants game rocking a "Pay C.J." shirt. Everyone should do the same when they attend a game or risk losing him.

No, he's not making $500,000. A bonus is an early payment in return for future performance. He accepted 7 million guaranteed two years ago, with the possibility of making 12 million, to play for us for five years. He got 7 million dollars, even if he broke his leg, got cut, or anything else (unless he quit).

Quite frankly, a holdout, to me, is the equivalent of quitting. I think teams should be able to recover a larger portion of signing bonuses of players that hold out.

Signing bonuses exist for two reasons- security for the player, and cap accounting for the team. Saying C.J. is getting paid less than Pearman overlooks a huge reality, namely, that C.J. made more money before playing in a preseason game than Pearman has made (and probably will make) in his entire NFL career.

His carries will be reduced next season, so why would the Titans give him a new contract based off his first 2 seasons when he will never see that production again? I think he will be lucky to be a 1,500 back next season with Ringer and the other guys we have now.

CJ is still a 2,000 Back, but he wont be used enough to prove it for the rest of his time as a RB, Titans mad that mistake last season. all they did was miss the playoffs, wear CJ down and give him a bigger Ego. CJ needs to be brought back down to reality. This isnt a 1 man team.

CJ needs to honor his end of the deal. The titans gambled on him and they won. When you sign your name on the dotted line, you need to realize what you are signing. He wouldn't be giving any of that money back if he underperformed last year, why should they give him more if he over performs? I over perform all the time at work and my compensation isn't increased. If you guys want to pay CJ, that's fine, but when your ticket prices skyrocket to compensate, dont btch moan or complain

GoTitans1234, Jesse, and Erick all bring up good points, but from where C.J. is standing he has to ask for more today. He just came off a historic season, and likely won't ever see that kind of production ever again. Why be another of Fishers pawns when you could be a huge hit. C.J. knows the deal and will be in camp when he has to, but for now he's holding his breath praying for a better deal. I'm sure after he has another successful year, the Titans will sit him down and show him the money. I'm hoping he goes for another 2K season and makes them look stupid. Then they'll be wishing they weren't so stubborn about things.

They wouldn't look stupid, they'd look brilliant. For getting another amazing season out of him under his rookie contract. Then they'd re-up him in the offseason, and everyone wins. It's in EVERYONE's best interest for CJ to have the best year possible.

That being said, best year possible doesn't mean best stats possible like last year. If he rushes for 1400 yards on 80 less carries, but we make the playoffs and win a game, it's still a great year for both CJ and the team.

His head is big today after one 2000-yard season, with two back to back he'll want more money than Haynesworth and Manning combined. Not that he'll get that or should, but he'll believe he should. To me that's a problem for the front office. A problem they could have avoided if they addressed this now. But that's all "what-if's" and life doesn't work that way, but it is a real possibility he flirts with another 2K yard rushing season.
