It should be plenty clear by now he had not earned the extreme negativity.

    Major overreaction.

It's one thing to not like a guy or not think he's going to be good. The anti-VY rhetoric was way above and beyond rational, for many posters.

Overboard, absolutely not. In 2008, while being paid millions to lead this team, Vince QUIT and then spend a good part of the rest of the season having his own private pity party on the sidelines. Folks here acting like they had some inside knowledge that he had some magical destiny in 09 is outright BS. The odds were way against it.
He got his ""th chance and beat the odds.
Good for him and good for us that he didn't spiral into the Akili Smith zone, but that's where he was headed. He now needs to play a full season and improve. Status quo is not acceptable and god forbid he should regress.

If our defense improves and CJ continues to shine then i see no reason for him to play bad. This is not a make or break year imo, but i do think it's a big one. We are tied for toughest schedule in the league so we can now see how this dynamic offense fairs against teams well above average in the NFL. Unlike last year. Guys won't be able to use the "he's beaten a bunch of mediocre teams" excuse anymore. And im not predicting he will soar, but i just think with our new offense, it is highly unlikely that he should play anyworse than last season.

Any Akili Smith comparison should've been dead after 2006. At that point he COULDN'T flame out as bad as Akili because he'd already accomplished more as a professional.

Face it Cruds. You were way wrong, and you were way overboard.

I realize a lot of you got your feelings hurt over the "Vince quit/suicidal" stuff, which I should remind all of you that NONE of us know what really happened during that time frame, it's still all speculation, choose who you want to believe.

There was no "inside knowledge" to a "magical destiny" crap. Some of us simply support VY and based on what we saw believed in him as a QB. I can understand those that don't believe he would be a good QB.

But to proclaim him as big a bust as Akili Smith, AFTER winning rookie of the year and in that process topping Akili's QB rating by over 10, passing yards by 900, rushing yards by 300, and TDs by 3, that is pure overboard HATE.

(by the way, that's Vince's rookie year in comparison to Akili's best year, his third)

Good grief.. How was I way overboard? In 08 Vince was definitely looking like a bust ala Akili... If I see a mule and call it a mule that's not out of line.

In 08, Vince had accomplished more than Akili had in his career. At that point, he's beyond comparison to Akili in the bust category.

If Vince had never played another play in the NFL after 2008, I totally understand the label of "bust". I have a problem in trying to make an equal comparison that he was as abysmal as Akili. The stats, record, tds, yards, rushing yards, qb rating, all say different.

In 2008, Vince was already beyond Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Cade McNown, etc as the biggest Qb busts of all time.

I'm not saying he couldn't be considered a bust. But he couldn't have been considered amongst the all-time worst QB busters.

    Do not mean it literal.

If I say I loved Al Wilson, I don't mean I had homo love for him. I mean he's one of my favorite vols players, lbs, to watch of all time.

I hate Ray Lewis. I really don't wish he's murdered, or other horrible things happen to him and his, I just want him to get run over by every running back next season. I want him to be on the bad end of an ESPN highlight every week.

The love is what was irrational after three horrible seasons, one of which he quit on his team. And yes, we do know he quit. That was painfully obvious, in more ways than one. He happened to pull through it. As Crud said, good for him and good for us.

As for the Akili Smith and other bust comparisons, yes he would have ranked up there with them had he not played after '08. He would also have thrown over five times as many interceptions as Akili. See what happens when we extrapolate? Makes me wonder if there's still some Akili fanboys out there. He wasn't as bad as Leaf, right? Would it have even mattered?

Nonetheless, Vince seems to have improved. Hopefully, he continues to improve. He played good last season, but I think this is his make or break year. All he has to do is work. Pick up where he left off. This team needs solidity at QB, bad. If we're seriously contemplating Kerry Collins's future as a Titan through the 2010 season, we're boned. At least Vince proved he can still win games and that he can still be clutch.

No. I didn't extrapolate stats, I compared Vince's ROOKIE season to Akili's BEST (3rd) season and Vince was better in every category except Ints, and vince threw over 100 passes more, and Akili had more fumbles.

If you want to count total ints you might at least mention Vince has attempted 570 more passes than Akili Smith.

You guys are dumb. I guess to you all Lendale White is as big a bust as Lawrence Phillips. Makes as much sense as saying Vince = Akili.
