I like Hughes because the main purpose of the RDE in our defense is to rush the QB and that is what Hughes does. He is the closest thing in the draft to a Freeney type player in his ability to get around the edge. He isn't going to be a beast against the run but he is an animal getting to the QB which is our biggest need right now. Also, I can't see how Kindle gets all the hype when IMO Hughes is the better overall player and the better pass rusher. He should go ahead of Kindle IMO if to a 3-4 or 4-3 team.

Also there isn't really a good way to compare Hughes or Kindle to guys like Witherspoon because although Witherspoon is a "pure" OLB he isn't going to fit a 3-4. I doubt a 4-3 team is looking seriously at guys like Kindle or Hughes as OLBs but then again I'm not sure 3-4 teams are looking seriously at guys like Spoon as OLBs in their scheme. I do think after watching Hughes with his agility, quickness and instincts he could line up just about anywhere and be a solid player. The kid is a football player but most of all he is a pass rusher.

Of course the distance to the QB is 10 yards not 40 so the 10 yard split times are important.

    Some 10 yard times.

    Morgan-1.60

    Dunlap 1.61

    Graham 1.61

    Hughes 1.63

    Griffen 1.63

    Kindle 1.65

    Pierre Paul 1.65

    Well...

In college he wasn't exactly a great pass rusher and was more known for being a good run penetrator who had balance issues (ended up on the ground too much), didn't have a lot of stamina, and didn't have a high motor. If he was even a decent pass rusher, he would have seen the field more on passing downs and they might have moved Jones outside consierding we were desperate for pressure. Plus, DT's with the above 'issues' tend to not be good pass rushers.

    Um...

thanks for posting the info but where did you get these numbers and what might be the purpose of this post other than to inform us that there is a mere 5 hundredths of a second difference between the fastest and slowest guys at 10 yards?

Everyone from Michigan is better :suspect:

I still can't figure out how they haven't won the last 10 BCS championships.

    Hughes 3a
    McCluster-3b

Nfl draft scout provides the info on 10 and 20 yard splits.

Does it matter? I don't know but Jared allen's 10 yard split was only 1.68 with his 4.72 40. He seems to have worked out.

Which goes to show that agility and having the body control and leverage to get around the corner or make a quick move to the inside and use your hands effectively when engaged plays a big part as well as pure straight line speed.

The 3 cone and shuttle provide some of the missing pieces to the puzzle and of course game film. That is why I'm high on Hughes.

    Dunlap's 3 cone was 7.21, his shuttle 4.61
Hughes 3 cone was 6.99 his shuttle, best among DL was 4.15.

Hughes should go late first IMO. I honestly wouldn't be mad with him at #16 or dropping down assuming a few prospects aren't there. Watch tape the guy is better then Kindle as a 3-4 OLB and could be a terror off the edge in a 4-3.

    Yeah. Hey, clueless...

ask me about Donovan Warren, or someone else I think won't have much of a career other than for depth in the draft class.

It's funny. I at least shed negative opinions on my favorite teams... have you EVER done such a thing?
