O righty then, seems like Pierre here is more concerned about prostate exams for eskimos than getting beat at the sport they invented by a bunch of flag waving foolish Americans...yet he spends a lot of time on a sports message board...:ha:...how globally warming that is to my heart...

Come on Nanuck, I challenge you to a curling duel, you pick the brooms...:grrhee:

Hoffa I'll curl you under the table. And I'm sure TorontoTitanFan was top of his high school when curling came up.

You do realize that's the first time in fifty years the US Olympic hockey team defeated their Canadian counterpart right? And even in doing so, it's not like they outplayed the Canucks... the Americans were outshot by a 2 to 1 margin, but were gifted the win through an epic performance by their goaltender. The team won fair and square no doubt, but if I were a US hockey player I wouldn't start dusting off a spot on the mantle for an olympic medal just yet.

The funding stuff is also BS to a certain extent. Most of the American programs are helped through corporate and private donations as opposed to tax payers dollars (which is the way it f-ing should be). The Canadian government poured oodles of cash into the amateur athletic sytem over the past 5 years, but if history is any indicator 80% of that money was used up funding crony filled committees whose sole purpose was deciding how to allocate said monies.

I've always said that there should be a medal for fourth place in the Olympics called "Canadian Gold". We're just a fourth place kinda nation... and I've got no problem with that (which is probably why were just a fourth place kinda nation :) )

I know it's been a while, like I said I don't really care that much, just thought it was funny how Canada put so much into it and not getting much back.

Geez, you Cannucks are really sensitive...I guess when you've been bashed and blamed for everything around the world like America has you just have a thicker skin. We've lost in basketball at the olympics, a sport we invented, but we didn't cry about it...:moon2:

I never said anything about sports being a waste of time. I'm all for private companies spending as much money as they want on sports. I love that NFL owners are willing to spend millions on a product that entertains me (and all of us, since we post here).

I just think it's a waste of money for my country (and every other country) to spend money on the Olympics and other international events. Nationalism is pretty dumb. That's all I am saying. Again, congrats to the US for winning so many medals.

As for curling, I would love to give it a shot. Believe it or not, most Canadians (myself included) have never been near a curling rink (are they called rinks? sheets?). I don't even really understand all the rules.

Basketball was invented by a Canadian. And you guys kinda did cry about it, but no one can really blame you for it.

I sincerely apologize for that slander then...but it's treason to side with a cannuck over a countryman in a duel...

Naismith was a naturalized American. You don't have to be born in America to be an American. All of us, or our ancestors, came from somewhere else. Naismith invented basketball in America and it was first played by Americans, so I don't know how you can claim basketball was invented by a Canadian. He was born in Canada, but he became American.

And no, we didn't cry like you are when we lost in basketball. We didn't grasp at straws and blame things like population census and what not. We said we didn't send our best players, which we didnt', but have since and have won the gold back.
