So again, I ask... Who's the best QB in the league THIS YEAR?

The point is- It's much easier to make the case that Reggie Wayne is the guy he was expected to be coming out of college. So is Dallas Clark. So was Marvin Harrison.

However- No one expected Colston to be any good. No one.

I guess you guys can somehow try to say it isn't so- you've denied everything else.

I must be lost. Where has this thread gone? The best QB in the league this year was none other than JaMarcus Russell, duh.

He was so d@mn good he was given an early vacation. The kids got a cannon of an arm.

I took a brief look at Steve Young, and you are right, he's the exception. Out of 14 playoff games, only four games were within 7 points. He lost two of those and won two. So his opportunities for a come back were a little more limited than say Jim Kelly or Peyton Manning. But I think that stats demonstrate that in general a great qb will face adversity a lot in the playoffs and they appear to deliver at some point.

Peyton on the other hand had 8 games that were within 7 points out of 18. And he lost 5 of them. Only once delivering in a tie game or when behind in the 4th. So he's had his chances in my opinion and failed to deliver.

    Huh?

Perhaps you can enlighten me to your thinking....

A player who racks up awesome regular season stats but has mediocre playoff stats and was average in the Superbowl should be crowned best QB ever?

The playoffs are where the big boys play and the Super Bowl is for the elite. Don't you think the best QB ever should be judged on MORE closely in how they perform in the post season?

Last I checked, this game was about winning the Super Bowl, not racking up stats in an NFL now hugely favoring the offense.

Think about this. Manning is playing with probably 2 or more Hall of Fame players on offense. His receivers can NOT be hit past 5 yards and the plethora of rules to protect the QB. How many Hall of Fame offensive players did Marino play with and DB's could hit his guys all over the field (and did). What kind of stats could Marino have put up with a couple of Hall of fame offensive players and these rules? Probably another 100 TD's at least.

As for post-season performers, none was better than Montana IMO. The dude's playoff record and performances were awesome. Manning is 9-9 in the playoffs/super bowl while Montana was 16-7. Manning has a QB rating of 88 in postseason play...down from a career level of 95.2. Montana ELEVATED his game in the post season to 96...up from a career rate of 92.3. Montana was also ridiculous in his 4 Super Bowls with his rates ranging from 100-147.6 (and 5 TD's in that game...the record at the time).

Teams do win championships, but they also win regular season games. I don't see how you can give him more credit for winning regular season but write off his post-season play...which is vastly more important.

You guys are comparing Peyton Manning to all these guys that played without a salary cap though. It's a lot easier to put together a dynasty when you can get whoever you want to. Peyton has continually succeeded with a revolving door of talent. Do you think Marshall Faulk would have walked back in the 80s? How about the Edge walking on the edge of his prime? When was the last time the Colts brought in a difference maker FA? They've had to do it all through the draft and the only constants have been Polian and Manning. It would be interesting to see how well Montana had done if he had lost some of those HoFamers he played with.

So you're saying that the guys that were drafted first were considered better coming out of college?!?!?! Please, enlighten us more man !!!! I'm sorry, were you going somewhere with that? Again, draft position doesn't mean crap after you have an NFL resume. We should trade a couple first rounders for Russell imo!!!!!

The "best" in a team sport is always subjective--especially without knowing what he'll do in the next five+ seasons he'll play.

And I present to you, Terry Bradshaw. His 15-5 postseason record is statistically greater than Montana's. And, he held all the postseason records in his day. Are you willing to say that Terry Bradshaw was/is better than Peyton Manning?

Colston IS good though. What does it matter what people expected? That means NOTHING.

London Fletcher wasn't expected to be good either, but the dudes a monster.

Meachem is a first rounder too, people expected him to be good, what happened? Shouldn't Brees have made him as good as Reggie Wayne?

your honestly using expectations to measure which receiver is better?

    Wow.

Lots of closet colt fans in here.

Melon is the better overall QB in the league right now...career wise when looking at regular season as well as post.

Brees was better this year though...and I mean all year. Face it and move on.
