I am torn...I love what I have seen of it so far with regard to the ebook reader [which will own the kindle] and the speed of the chip for the other apps. However, and this is something I am honestly shocked by, is no multitasking. NO MULTITASKING?!

How is this supposed to be the netbook killer if I cannot have Pandora running while browsing or email? Or having email going while browsing. It is just a stupid omission but is probably due to the fact that they are running the iPhone software rather than a "mini" version of their Mac OS.

I also think the size could have been more 16:9 rather than 4:3...that is not good for video/movies. And lack of Flash support...not good.

I would still love having the portability to browse and work email and such because my gaming laptop is too much to move with me from upstairs to downstairs.

I wonder if they are going to come out with a V2 of this really quickly with a lot of these fixes like they did with the iPhone...makes early adoption kinda risky.

With no flash for the internet or a camera and the fact it is pretty much an oversized iphone that you probably wouldn't leave the house with has been changed to iFail

All of this started from the I-O-U. It was scam then and it's a scam now.

  4. I suspect that will change with the next OS upgrade to 4.0. But still, the people who will buy this mainly don't care all that much about multitasking. I also want to be able to listen to music while I surf or read, but I think that's a smaller concern than many people think right now. Those people aren't necessarily the target audience for the iPad.

As for doing email and web browsing at the same time, that's no problem. You can only do one at a time anyway. It works just fine on the iPhone as it is simply switching back and forth much like you'd do on a normal computer.

I thought the same when I first saw it. But I think the problem would have been handling the computer in landscape mode if it was 16:9. You can still watch movies in 16:9 even if it isn't covering the full screen.

Apparently Adobe has some workaround for that, but realistically Flash is headed to being replaced by HTML5. It's likely only a problem in the short term.

There will probably be a new version within a year or so, like the iPhone. But I think the new product is pretty damned advanced already. It just isn't for everyone. It won't kill the netbook industry. But it will take a big chunk out of it.

If Apple wanted to totally dominate the market as a school computer, they'd create a tablet a student can write on that converts to typed text.

  7. You mean a Newton? :ha:

Seriously though, I expect this will happen. Apple has still been working on their old handwriting technology over the last 15 years. The tablet has been an ongoing project for years.
