I expect homerism here in TN, but rioting over a football coach? True class.......makes the University look really bad.

It's a pretty welcome thing by the folks in SoCal (unless you are a UCLA fan or the LA Times).

Class? Look in the mirror Lane. You're the "grown up" here. How about teaching your recruits what it means to commit? How about teaching kids to take on a task and see it through?

Looks to me like some college kids burned an old mattress and ran around in the street for a while. They painted a rock with vulgarities that has had vulgarities painted on it thousands of times. No one was hurt or arrested. The kids were cuttin' up and laughing. Is that really a riot?

Although estimates Tuesday night placed the crowd size at nearly 1,000, Lambert this morning said about 500 students were engaged in the protests.

"The crowd was very manageable," Lambert said. "We asked them to move and they moved, so you can't say they were an unruly crowd."

Lambert is the UT Chief of Police btw.

Classy? Maybe not, but monkey see monkey do.

Oh for pete's sake.....give it up. This evening of "cuttin' it up" has made national news. It's reported as a riot, not a party. Not classy, looks bad on UT.

It's not like he's the first coach to ever leave his contract early......Look at names such as Brian Kelly, Bobby Petrino, Nick Saban, Pete Carroll. All broke contracts and left their employer early....never a problem. Yet when it hits here, the homers scream bloody murder.

Don't believe everything the national media reports.
I would think the local report is closer to what actually happened.

And how is that worse than schools that "riot" when their team wins a title? We've seen that many times and places.
If it "looks bad for UT", it's only because so many other places have already looked bad...

Oh, I agree. It's just that the rest of nation will see this as a riot over losing a coach......NOT for winning a championship.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with UT (except the orange color), it's just that since I've lived here, I've had to learn to play the sarcasm card ....I'm outnumbered. LOL

I live in Knoxville and I saw these "riots" first hand. The national media can portray it however they want, but it was definitely a jovial party atmosphere where, again, no one was arrested nor injured and no crime was committed.

It's not about leaving early. If he was here for 3 years then left, yeah I'd be disappointed. But what he did- coming in and making promises and getting the trust of all the fans and players, only to leave once his "dream job" became available- was just low. He didn't do much for UT, but promised a lot. Those other guys you mentioned actually did a lot for the schools. UT fans supported him, even when he ran his mouth, because he was our coach.

I agree, the riots are ridiculous. But UT fans definitely have a right to be upset with Kiffin. Watch the video of when he was leaving. He basically just ran off. The only contact him and the coaches that were leaving had with the players was Orgeron trying to recruit them to USC. I understand the competitive nature of college sports, but that's a little far. Have some class, especially if you're already walking away from a program selfishly.

I didn't like USC before and I still don't, but good luck. You all will still probably win a lot of games since you're in a weak conference and are 10x more talented than every other team in it. But as far as having a classy program that builds men and instills values like integrity, honor, and loyalty in them? Not likely (can't say much though, with the recent UT players with guns/drugs/etc, hopefully we will change some things too). It's a shame that teams are moving away from that, because it was like that at one time. Knowing what I know now about Kiffin and Orgeron, I'm glad we have a(nother) fresh start here at UT.

^ OK, I'm sure you'd all feel the same way and preach about integrity/trust if you were getting a $2M/yr pay bump and leaving the cold weather. Can't b*tch at the guy until you wear his shoes.

Funny thing is, 24 hours earlier Pete Carroll resigned and no one seemed to have a problem with it..... after he told all his recruits and players he was staying for life. What about Brian Kelly leaving the week of his bowl game for Notre Dame? 1 day of pissed off people, but no riots or the outrage seen here.

Maybe USC students just don't give a crap.

50 USC students lit candles and cried when Pete Carroll left. 500 UT students lit a mattress and laughed when Lane Kiffin left.

    Just sayin...
