How about Tony Dungy? I know it's a long shot, but I'd love to see him here. The only one's I'm interested in so far are Dungy, Gruden, Leach, and Muschamp. Shoot high, Vols. We better not settle for a below average coach since we're desperate.

Wouldn't his loyalty lie with USC...

Dungy would be highly doubtful (I'm also of the band wagon on good NFL coach doesn't necessarily equal good college coach and vice versa, whole different monster)

Gruden is locked in ESPN contract

Leach's bad press can't help but hurt UT after what both sides are going through (Leach locking that kid up, UT the arrests and such)

Forgot to add though Cutcliffe has been mentioned too

Please no :ha:. And Cutcliffe is too much of a reminder of the Fulmer years. We need someone fresh.

Muschamp would be an excellent replacement! He's one that could actually come in and have the presence and lure that kiffin and co. had.

Of course it would. We can all play holy and say he should have honored his contract, but we also all know that in this country, contracts mean squat. He loves California and he loves USC much more than he loves Tennessee, and obviously, all his comments about building up the program here really carried no weight at all when it came to choosing between his home state and way more money. But like someone said, if USC gets probation and whatever else the NCAA hands out, he may not have a team to coach! So he may find that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the country after all.

But good luck to him. He's going to need it, I think.

Depends on how you look at it. I guess you could say doesn't someones loyalty lie with their first ex wife too but that doesn't really hold much water now does it?

If loyalty to USC was such an issue with Lane, why did he leave 2 years ago when it was well known that Carrol was interested in an NFL coaching position and had lobbied for the Falcons job? He knew that he would be the leading candidate to take over the position when Pete left which was inevitable. But what did wonder boy do? He followed his one and only loyalty and that is top dollar. Which I hope answers your question. No Lane's loyalty was and is not to USC, it was and is to money.
