I started looking into the draft earlier than usual this year and draft season is my favorite 4 months of the year. So I'm getting pumped about the idea of having a top pick and the stud we're supposed to get. I've been researching here and there for a couple of weeks now. Here's what I've come up with thus far based on what the Titans are probably going to need come April.

Needs heading into the draft and who's worth a top pick at this point:

    1.) Quarterback: J. Clausen, J. Locker, R. Mallett, S. Bradford(?)
2.) Defensive End: Maybe D. Morgan, S. Kindle, or C. Dunlap
    3.) Cornerback: E. Berry(?), J. Haden
    4.) Defensive Tackle: N. Suh, G. McCoy
    5.) Outside Backer: T. Lewis, S. Weatherspoon, T. Mays

Titans' Big Board as of right now:

    1.) Jimmy Clausen (QB)
    2.) Jake Locker (QB)
    3.) Ryan Mallett (QB)
    4.) Sam Bradford(?) (QB)
    5.) Ndamukong Suh (DT)
    6.) Eric Berry (CB*)
    7.) Travis Lewis (OLB)
    8.) Joe Haden (CB)
    9.) Gerald McCoy (DT)
    10.) Sean Weatherspoon (OLB)
    11.) Rolando McClain (MLB)
    12.) Derrick Morgan (DE)
    13.) Taylor Mays (OLB)
    14.) Sergio Kindle (DE)
    15.) Carlos Dunlap (DE)

A lot will change as free agency rolls around and underclassmen decide to stay in school...I'm fully aware of that. But this is how I see it right now if I'm the Titans. I'm a believer in the system the Titans use by 'staying true to your board'. Don't take a page from the Raiders' drafting manual and start reaching because of needs.

    * DISCLAIMER: I'm assuming Berry can play CB. If not, he's bumped down considerably. So stfu.

Good post/topic. If we pick in the top 5, I'd call some of those QBs reaches there. I haven't done much research on QB prospects other than watching some of them on tv, but I highly doubt all 4 of them should be higher than Suh and Berry.

I really like Haden at CB- he'd be a stud that would compliment our D nicely. If we end up winning more games and picking a little later, I really hope we end up getting him.

And I like how you have Mays listed as an OLB- so true. He'll probably be a good one too. He certainly has the physical tools to play.

I really like Terrence Cody, DT from Alabama, also.

Do I get you right: You would spent a top 5 pick on Haden???

In my opinion Suh and McCoy are far better prospects for the 4-3 scheme!

I'm all for the DT - Suh from Nebraska. Also that performance Alabama's DT - Cody put up against Tennessee was great for his stock. If we keep Cecil, I'd assume he keeps his defensive philosophy and schemes the same, so we really need a powerful DT giving us an inside push. I also like Eric Berry, who would be an upgrade for man coverage at any position he played, safety or corner.

I think Clausen, Locker, and Mallett are the elite QBs -- two of them will stay in school, imo. I'm also not sold on Bradford. He's a huge mystery at this point. I think he could end up anywhere from the top-10 to the second round. He'll basically have sat out a year and some think OU is a system offense. We'll see...should be interesting with him.

I like Haden also, but I don't think he'll be worth a top-5 pick. But there's always the possibility that we trade down. And he'd be a prime candidate to trade down to get.

Mays could play Bulluck's spot in this D and play it at Bulluck's level imo. They're already close to the same size.

I'd be shocked if the Titans FO considers Cody...even for a second. He's not what Washburn's looking for. Simple as that. Get over your love for him now because he's a lock to be taken by a 3-4 team in need of a NT.

I've heard several people here say this. I must say, I don't get it. Why exactly would Washburn not be interested in him? Just because he seems perfect to play NT in a 3-4 means he can't also be a beast in a 4-3? I'm really not trying to sound like a jerk here, I'm legitimately asking. This Cody kid is pretty much the same size as Haynesworth and he seemed to fit into our scheme nicely.

I posted this in the other draft thread...

I just don't see him being worth a top pick in a 4-3.

Don't get me wrong, Cody will be good wherever he goes but he's an absolute perfect fit for a 3-4.

He could help our D because he'll eat up so much space and free up the other d-linemen...but I just don't think a guy like that is worth it and isn't what Wash wants. Think Shaun Rogers...the two are basically twins.

I had said I'd like Haden if we won some games and picked a little later in the draft rather than the top 5 like everyone is kinda thinking. He's definitely not a top 5 prospect, though he is a talented player. I just think a CB has to be really, really special to be a top 5 pick. Even then, there would have to be some talent lacking at other positions in the draft.

Suh and McCoy are great prospects. I just said I like Cody as well, not better than them. They are different players and I agree that those 2 fit better in the 4-3, so they're more ideal for us.
