I've watched a about 10 college games this year, and I don't recall once seeing the option play. Must be watching the wrong teams. Anyway, not a big fan of the wildcat. I'm a bigger fan of the option. I don't think either suit the VY running style which is more glide like. I think the spread offense really plays to VY's style though. I think he and CJ can do damage with space and out of the shotgun. They are good at making one person miss rather than trying to hit holes. Lendale I think would be good in a wildcat because the misdirection allows you to pound holes for the 5-6 yard gains. But I don't like it for VY because or CJ because they tend to move to the hole slowly.

Anyway. For me. Shotgun, spread. Lots of short reads. Space for VY and CJ. The drawback is a defense that crowds the line of scrimmage. Then you must consider going deep and we suck at that. We need faster WR's and QB who can lay it out and hope they run under it. But I still like the idea of it. I think it is best suited to our talent. I think Lendale could run out of it too.

Did you guys see that mess of an attempt they ran in pre-game last week? Their wildcat effort was crap at best. It'll never happen. Jeff Fisher doesn't know how to implement good formations. He's a business man, not a football coach anymore. And this weekends game vs. New England is going to be a messy one. We cant run well enough to keep Brady on the sideline and out of sync. He's going to light us on fire. It's been in the 30's up here, cold as schet and raining non stop. And because of that I say we should run LenDale into their mellow D-line. That will work.

    P.S. PhiSlammaJamma,
    I'd high-five your post above 5X if I could.

It really doesn't matter what formation you line up in if your QB is going to throw picks, your ball handlers consistently drop the ball and the defense isn't doing its job.

Florida does it ad nauseum. Watch some of their games. You'll see the same play almost over and over.

You, me and everyone else here, except for the Titans coaching staff realizes what formations and plays would be best suited to VY and CJ.

Crowding the LOS when there are 4 WRs lined up spread out is dangerous for a defense. If you have 4 WRs spread out, if the D puts anymore than 7 in the box, one of those WRs isn't covered. And if they bring the house, just pitch it to the WR that isn't covered. A spread offense does wonders for keeping opposing Ds from stacking the box. Granted it leaves less blockers for pass and run protection, but it also leaves much more space for VY and CJ to run around in.
One idea I was thinking is have WR trips loaded up on one side, then pitch it to CJ to run the other way. Or same formation and have CJ sweep out towards the trips, have VY fake a hand off to him, then rollout the other way. You could have a TE on the left side of the line run a corner route to that side and give VY an option to pass it to the TE on that side, or just take off running.

I'm sure Fisher will run the wildcat in practice and during pre game warm ups but when its game time there will be no wildcat

the option doesn't work in the NFL. It really isn't that hard to understand...the speed of the game is so much quicker then collegiate level games.

They said that about the wild cat, Run and Shoot, and Spread too. Will never work. And they were wrong. Most "College" offenses eventually have their day from what I can tell. Seems like the passing offenses never fail to be honest. I find it interesting that the spead, RS, and Vert have resulted in numerous playoff and SP appearances, athough most times comes up just short.

Run and Shoot - Worked, 1 SB appearance (HOU, ATL, DET)
Wild Cat - Worked (MIA, PHI, OAK*, BAL)
Option - Not yet, but when has someone even tried it.
Spread - Worked, 2 SB Appearance (NE, ARZ, KC* )
Vertical - Successful, Several SB wins (SD, DAL, STL, GB, CAR, OAK)
West Coast - Great success - (EVERYONE)
Pro Set - Great Success - (EVERYONE)
    Pistol - No Success ( KC* )
    No Huddle - Success ( Buff )
    WING T -
    VEER -

By the way, does anyone really know what the Jell we are running out there these days. It's like a ball control offense with elements of the spread. And that probably explains the problem. I'm not sure that anybody knows what we are trying to do.

Bill Parcells was known to run some Option back in the late 80s

Except it isn't ball control anymore.

Its like we've lost our identity. I expected a heavy dose of run as per normal with the ability to be much more explosive at will. Now we seem to be trying to pass to set up the run. It's gone sadly wrong.

    Well said.

And if we throw the ball on 3rd and 1 again, I'm going to lose the rest of my mind.
