When has a big time free agent signing ever worked out for Washington?

The 99 team wasn't really that good - squeaked into the playoffs and made it through mostly on Eddie and Steve's heroics. Defense was good but still hadn't gelled at all. It wasn't as complete a team, though.

But the 2000 team was solid - defense and offense. Certainly the best until now - and maybe better than this team now. But Steve didn't really take off as a passer until 2001. The offense could wear you down, but Mason was the only explosive player and by far the best WR. All in all this offense looks much deeper and threatening.

The 2000 defense was probably in the top 10 defenses in NFL history. In the past 20 years I believe only 3 defenses have allowed under 200 points (2000 Ravens: 161, 2000 Titans 191, 2002 Bucs 196). So it's safe to say the 2000 defense is better than now.

You're right about special teams which looks to be this teams weakness right now - so that may weigh in on the side of the 2000 team. We'll see - they still have to prove it on the field but from what I've seen so far I think this squad is close to the 2000 team with the potential to be better. A SB win would be an appropriate way for them to prove it.

Any front office who puts the football into the hands of a run-first QB does not deserve to win. They are simply denying history, and by drafting such a player one is not interested in winning but has ulterior motives. In our front office's case it's Bud's revenge of the city of Houston, and not necessarily because he felt VY could help this team win Super Bowls.

You have been reading to many Texans boards if you believe this nonsense. Revenge for what? Letting him move the team? The whole logic behind the Bud Adams trying to stick it to Houston is silly. How can you stick it to a team that picked ahead of you?

Best Team? I'd take Steve, Eddie, and Frank over Kerry, Chris, and Alge. That's my biased opinion.

We've come close too many times. Last season was our second time being the best team in the league and blowing it... to the Ravens.

Obviously you think there's something to that... like our FO or coaches are to blame for both losses. In some ways that's true.

I don't remember too many failures in the 2001 playoffs against the Ravens. Yea, we lost 24 to 10, but that was a freak game. Al got his kick blocked and returned for a TD. Eddie bobbled a pass and Ray Ray returned it for a TD. Those are the highlights I remember. And I know we absolutely destroyed Trent Dilfer all day... just didn't work out. We outgained them by 183 yards and lost. That is an NFL record FYI.

The only two mistakes by the coaches in the 2009 playoffs was deferring because we failed to get the wind at our backs for the 4th quarter... Fisher knew the game would be an all out war. Why defer??? Get the croud pumped because we know the Ravens offense can't do crap? Yea, that sounds good, but when you're a coach you've got to be thinking ahead. Immediately when we deferred my dad looked at me and said "mistake." Not many people point this failure out, but it was a really really bad one. The other was of course not blitzing Flacco. Two players did a poor job of protecting the ball. Bad luck took care of the rest. We outgained the Ravens by 180 yards this time around which was very close to breaking our old NFL record... one of the worst NFL records you can break too.

I'm sick of people blaming our front office and coaches. We do a damn fine job, and not too many folks give us enough credit.

I don't know what it is about the Ravens, but I hate them. :)

I wasn't going to get into this thread, but I saw someone mentioned they would take McNair, George, and Wycheck over Collins, C.J., and Crumpler. I would too. I think Fisher has forgotten he had three Pro Bowl players beating the league up weekly. In 2000-2001 that team was no joke. I mean Collins now or in his 'prime' is good on his best best day, McNair is better than Collins on his worst day. Eddie then, was the best of the best sort of like C.J. in 5th gear, but I'd take Eddie any day over C.J.. Then of course our TE's here are still playing catch up to Wycheck's work. IDK Fisher, maybe you should rethink that. The one improvement is the depth at WR, and now we have the sure thing a.k.a Bironas. Defensively then and now were dominant.

It is more of Steve Eddie and Frank vs Collins, Cj, White and a group of TEs.

I would take this secondary over the 99 secondary any day of the week ... our O-line .... our LB core. It is not about 3 players it is about how well the team is working right now. Not saying he is right but I imagine the coach of both teams has a little deeper perspective then any of us do.

Now go out and win us a Super Bowl Fish!
