    Huh???

Which two plays are you referring to?

If one of them was the pass that got intercepted, how could he be oblivious to the blitz and yet throw the ball early to avoid being sacked? Throwing the ball early means he knew it was coming which negates your statement.

i mean... i guess you see what you see... but its not right. it was a poorly thrown ball no matter what lavelle was doing.

Pretty simple. He didn't see the blitz coming until it penetrated the line. Everyone else in the stadium knew where the guys were coming from BEFORE the snap. Not Vince.
A QB has to read the defense before the snap, not realize a blitz is coming once he's sacked or hurried. lol

    Um...no!

Do you really think when the defense lines 9 guys up on the line of scrimmage you can tell pre-snap 100% of the time which guys are coming and which aren't. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning can't do that either. I guess they stink too.

Why do you think the zone blitz was not only developed, but is successful to this day (especially run by the Steelers). If all professional QB's could tell who was coming and who wasn't, the Steelers D would get beat everytime they tried to blitz. In fact, you're suggesting every D should get beat by any decent QB because they know who is coming.

It doesn't work this way in the NFL. The proof that you're wrong is in the stats.

What IS true is that a QB knows based on his formation who is blocking and how many he can get to block. When the D has one more defender than he can block, he needs to see IF they bring that extra defender. If they do, he either goes to his first or quick read or his HOT receiver if the play/scheme has one. Vince clearly saw they had an extra man and looked for his 1v1 matchup.

This is what all qb's are trained to do. Saying he did the wrong thing is simply wrong. And since the WR ran the wrong route and HIS defender picked the ball off but wouldn't have been there, how can you blame the QB for the INT? If you want to argue that he threw an incompletion or was trying to throw the ball away against a free blitzer...what's the big deal?

Here's a thought. based on the route combination that was SUPPOSED to have occured, it looks like VY wasn't trying to throw the ball to Hawkins at all. It appears the Bills were in a 3 deep look...and zone blitzed with the RDE coming off into underneath coverage.

If Hawkins runs the CB deep on a GO, it appears VY was trying to lob the ball to where Stevens should be once he breaks past the DE trying to cover him. This IS the ideal matchup on the field. While there should have been a PI call on the DE for simply blocking Stevens from running past him, if Hawkins runs the right route, the pass drops to the ground as an incompletion since Stevens was unable to get past the DE.

As I see it, VY made the throw he was supposed to make. He should have had another second as we ended up with two blockers on one guy, but Hawkins ran the wrong route and Stevens didnt get past the DE and there was no PI call. Hard to say how good or bad the throw was since Stevens couldn't beat his man.

If the ball was to Lavelle, it would have either been thrown much farther down the field (since he was supposed to run a GO route) or thrown with a lot more zip if he was trying to throw it behind Hawkins' Go route. Since he lobbed it to where Stevens route was supposed to take him, it makes sense that THAT is who he was throwing to.

I watched the play YET AGAIN and I'm not seeing anything differently. In fact, I saw some additional stuff.
As Hawk was running, the defender was about an arm's distance away to Hawk's 10 o'clock (a bit in front and to his left towards the sideline. The DB was trying to keep Hawk in front of him. However, when Hawk breaks to the right, there is nothing between him and the pass.
If Hawk keeps running straight, the defender will still be just a bit ahead of him. Then the pass is heading right to Hawk. Hawk would have been in between the ball and the DB.
It would have been a very catchable ball for Hawk, if it wouldn't have been on the numbers.
But since he didn't run the right route, we'll never know now will we? We'll just leave it to you Haterade drinkers to preach to hell and high water that it was a poorly thrown ball.

What route did Hawk say he was supposed to run?
A Go route, right? Everyone initially thought it was supposed to be a Corner, but Hawk himself spoke and said it was a Go.

So do me a favor, go watch the video again and tell me where the DB would have been, where Hawk would have been in perspective where the pass was thrown if Hawk would have ran a GO route like he was supposed to.

ok after hawk has slowed down, and run the wrong route.... hes still even with the ball, distance wise.

best case scenario, young didnt pick up the blitz, so he threw up a floater for lavelle/the DB to fight for

    most likely scenario, bad pass

No. We've went over this before. Hawk is even with the DB, who jumps up in the air and catches the ball over his head, which puts the ball between Hawk's numbers 3-4 yards down. Assuming the DB keeps trying to keep Hawk in front of him, Hawk wins that battle; even better if its' under thrown, because Hawk can slow down to snag it and create a tiny bit more separation as the DB hits his brakes.

    No, most likely scenario,
not the best of, but still catchable pass that Hawk beats the DB for had he ran the right route

We're just going to have to agree to disagree.

Oh, ball was on the ~38 yard line. The defender that was jamming Stevens was right on the 43 yard line, unfortunately still within his legal rights to jam Stevens. He wasn't holding him.

    Huh?

First off...Young didn't pick up the blitz? Then why did he throw the ball early...right before the defender got there? Clearly he knew the blitz was coming and threw the ball early because of it. If he didn't pick up the blitz, he would have been sacked and taken a shot as if he didn't know the defender was coming. Since that didn't happen, your claim is false.

Second, if he expected Hawkins to run a GO route and threw one up, it would have been at least 40 yds down the field. A 4.3 guy running in a straight line should get at least 30 yds down field by the time the ball is thrown in 3 secs. Since Young threw it after about 3 seconds and it takes the ball closer to 5 seconds from the snap to get down the field, no way he throws a 20 yd floater. If he was throwing to Lavelle he either would have launched it 40-50 yds down the sideline or fired it at Lavelle on the inside (away from the defender). Since he lofted it 20 yds downfield and to the outside where Stevens was supposed to be on his wheel route...

Most likely scenario is that Stevens was his target. And while the DE was within 5yds, you can not block the receiver when the ball is in the air...which is exactly what the DE did.

so if a QB in the NFL gets hurried, and forces up a bad throw... then the commentator would say "that QB did a nice job of pickin up the blitz"

picking up = realizing ahead of time and adjusting

not picking up = realizing youre being blitz when a dude is 2 feet away from you

    imo
