the preseason may not mean anything as far as a win or loss for the team but it means a lot when it comes to individual perfomance. i don't think any player comes out playing half @ss. they all still have something to prove everytime they come back the following season. that roster spot isnt given to them by no means. i don't think the players take the preseason as light as you think they do

Vince looked poised, comfortable. And had fun which is great. I love seeing him on the sideline smiling because it means he's not worried and is confident in himself.

i dont think they take it lightly.

but VY was playing the 2nd and 3rd string.

i didnt really see anything special either that made me think, wow VY could be our franchise guy

gave me a little hope tho

    Synopsis: Week 1 Preseason - Long-:grrr::grrr::grrr: rant.

Vince Young played very well. He looked poised, and in control. His passes looked crisp. He actually went through progressions. He did make one bonehead play that was botched from the snap, but luckily, it didn't cost us much. I liked his passes tonight, but my favorite was an incompletion that he threw when he had three guys in his face. He actually threw the ball away instead of trying to do too much. It's my favorite because it demonstrates a level of maturity that he has rarely demonstrated. Second favorite was the TD pass to Britt. He punked that DB bad when he ran to the line. M'fer set me back 500 game room dollars. :greedy: Now we just have to hope that is healthy and remains healthy. Hamstring probably tightened up on the run. I want to see more.

Collins looked like hammered crap. Though Collins's passes were crisp as always, he looked more like Young did last week. He made numerous bad decisions with the ball, two of them being quite costly, though the interception at the line was great athleticism from the D-Lineman.

D-Line looks great. We need to extend Tony Brown again. Haynesworth might have had a couple monster seasons, but Brown was definitely the catalyst in the line - the final piece that allowed it to come together in a big kind of way, and he's still holding it together.

Scaife = nonfactor. He just isn't doing as much as the other TE's. How is that our new offensive lineman, Alge Crumpler, can consistently get open and make plays, but Scaife seems to disappear most plays? Crumpler, Stevens, and Cook are all looking stronger to me. I could be wrong. Scaife could have his best season yet this season, but from I've seen so far, we won't be using the tag on him next season.

WR's are much improved. I'm soooooo glad the Titans didn't open the wallet for Dry-Bones Holt. As far as our passing game goes, Britt, Cook, and Washington are all welcome additions as each seems to be a playmaker in their own right. Just as well, Crumpler has been catching everything that gets near him.

RB's were considered to be our offense for the last couple seasons, but what has happened? I'm calling it right now. Poor work ethic. It's not just the O-Line. Chris Johnson doesn't look anywhere near as explosive as he did last season. He even looks kind of sluggish. Lendale White isn't doing any better. He lost a lot of weight, but I doubt it was just because he quit drinking. He looks like he hit the snow flakes. Ringer is the sole bright spot thus far. He breaks tackles and stays on his feet. White and Johnson don't need to get too comfortable...

DB's are looking good. The young guys are very very raw... but talented. They seem to get picked on from time to time, but they seem to have a propensity for making some big plays while showing off their ball skills. I know our secondary is already talented, but if these young guys like Mouton and McCourty can stick around, I can see them helping to fill out an even more talented secondary in a few years. For the time being, they may be adequate depth.

Fowler is playing like a man possessed. I know this opinion won't be too popular here, but I was never sold on Tulloch. I know Tulloch won't be losing his starting gig anytime soon, but it's refreshing to see Fowler hungry for playing time. I know Tulloch is a hard-nosed player, and I enjoy watching him play, but I've always thought our run defense was better with Fowler in the game. With the loss of a starting DT (Haynesworth), this is something we should definitely keep an eye on. Furthermore, I've always been afraid that QB's would exploit Tulloch's height over the middle, and we saw this from time to time last season. Thornton looks poised to have a great season, maybe his best.

    Sounds great!

    But, not very realistic.

So, let's lose one, now. And, then run the table. :wink2:

Also, long-:grrr::grrr::grrr: rant not meant to be a big collection of over-reactions. Just how I see things after the week one preseason game. Of course, it is still preseason, and anything can happen between now and the season... I just notice how so many of us can see the same thing, but interpret it differently. This is how I currently see things.

I agree with what you posted. The only thing I would add is that I did not see the usual performance from the offensive line. Holes were scarce for our Rb's, at least until the last quarter. At times it seemed the offensive line had guys explode through the line. Our QB's had someone in their face half the game.

Lendale and CJ looked like the 3rd stringers. Henry seemed only a little better. Ringer, though running against ( possible 3rd stringers ) looked as enthusiastic running as Richard Simmons yelling at a fat woman.

Our boys won the game as they did last Sunday, but it was not all that impressive for the first teams.
