it's pretty obvious with your name that you aren't the best at predicting things.

let me help you. big al will be lazy, injured, and double/triple teamed for his entire existence with the redskins, making him overpaid and overrated.

I'm really surprised everyone seems so bitter and wants AH to fail so much. I'm not sure I really get that. It's not like he went to a rival team.

He's been double, triple teamed the last few years here and that didn't seem to stop him. It's clear he takes plays off, misses games, etc, but that's nothing new and I'm sure Washington is expecting that.

But he's one of the best players in the NFL today. And he is beastly at times when he is on his game. If he's overrated, where should he be rated?

We'll find out soon enough, but I think a lot of people claiming AH is going to suck are wrong.

Alexander fell off for one reason, he had too many carries over a short period of time. He had 3 seasons in a row at 325+. He had 5 seasons in a row at 295+. Only the very rare can withstand that much and continue to produce quality seasons.

It's a horrible comparison anyway you look at it. Not only are the positions so different, but Alexander missed one game in 4 consecutive seasons with the Seahawks. They just are not in anyway alike.

    +1 for everything

i dont think anyone here knows shaun alexander enough to claim that he gave up. i think you pulled that out of your :grrr::grrr::grrr:, just like your other DTs you compared Albert to, when they entered the league before you were born, and were in their prime when u were like 8 years old.

heres what i know about shaun alexander:
    he never caused problems
    he was the entire offense
broke his foot and then developed other injuries

    Many comments....

    1. His contract will actually end up being 4 years, 48 million. Whether it gets re-done or he gets cut depends on his play.

    2. He's never known when to shut up, the only time he's handled his PR correctly was after the Cowboys game. Why bring up the bad blood?

    3. He keeps contradicting his own statements about how far apart he was with the titans last year. Earlier in the offseason it was 2 million apart. I'm guessing in two years, he'll be saying that he wanted them to pay him one dollar more for him to stay, and they spat on him.

    4. I definitely agree with the remarkable fact that this article chose to leave out his reckless driving charge and the damage that he did.

    5. Did you read the list of his toys? Albert Haynesworth is officially on the list of NFL players most likely to go broke by 45.

    6. He made the guy redo his waterfall 3 times? Seriously, he just sounds like a spoiled child, in so many respects.

    7. He's probably going to continue to be a solid NFL DT. He may even have one more year as a top 5 defensive player. That said, he isn't worth 4 years, 48 million. I'm glad he left, and I don't think he'll end up playing a full season in more than one of the next four seasons.

The only other comments I can remember from Al were the negative one's regarding our non-acquisition of good talent during the past few offseasons. I agreed with what Al was saying, so I had no problem with those.

I'd bet whatever amount you want that he'll never say the Titans and he were 1 dollar apart. :)

I am surprised by that. But also don't want to be too quick to judge. Without video footage or any of us being there, I just can't judge the situation accurately.

Doubt it. He can afford a nice boat, cars etc and still save enough to be set for life and to set his kids for life.

I'm guessing you've never dealt with a waterfall or pond on your property before. Those things are terrible money sinks that rarely ever work right. But it doesn't really bother me that Albert wants amenities the way he wants them.

Or he could be a multi-year probowler. Hey, none of us know, this is only a prediction.

As far as not playing a full season, who expects him to? I'm sure the Redskins know his history and I'm sure they'd love it if he could play 16 game season. But I also think they'll be plenty happy with 13 games at Alberts top level of play.

That whole 'fixing the waterfall 3 times' deal, I'd make them do it right also. If I'm paying top dollar then they better do it how I want. As for him being worth $100 million, he hasn't gotten that money yet so he's not worth 100 million. He's worth the signing bonus plus the years he gets paid before they redo the contract. I can certainly believe Titans management is difficult to deal with. And Jeff Fisher is a defensive guy, that's why he constantly lets good defensive guys go because he knows how to replace them. By the way; I'm billing Haynesworth publicist $48 for the time it took me to read that whole article.

Back to football though; if the man is motivated he is the best period. If not he is a huge DT that misses plays. He wont get any shots at the Titans as I'm sure he will be hurt when we are scheduled to play the Redskins.

See, I read the waterfall thing a very different way. He had it redone three times, not because it was bad workmanship, but because it didn't freaking look right. Why in the world would you actually let someone build a waterfall in your backyard if you aren't confident about how you want it to look and how it's going to look? Even further, if they did it one way, and you don't like it, how can you not make sure that they get it right the second time?

In the bigger picture, it's a ridiculous waste, much like many of the other things listed, and those things in combination led to my remark about betting that he's most likely to lose his money.

Yes, you can spend some serious money on your lifestyle and still be set for life. However, it's also pretty easy to blow through it. As I mentioned above, he doesn't really have a 100 million dollar contract, he has a 48 million dollar contract. He's already made some money, but blowing through multiple remodels on your mansion (not his only home), covering your couches with osterich, keeping a yact in TN, racing your incredibly expensive sports car on the interstate where you can kill/injure someone and start a lawsuit (I can't really talk about this, because I definitely tested the limits of my sports car at 16, but I quit that by 18, so I'd like to think that he could realize how stupid it is by now). All these things paint a picture of someone who has little idea about the ramifications of their actions (remember the face stomp/anger issues?) that could easily lead to money problems down the road.

Heck, in the bigger picture, most athletes who take a slightly larger salary in a state with an income tax v. one that doesn't have one is pretty silly. If the Redskins are taxed in D.C. rates, that's 8.5% of his income! If it's Maryland, it's 5.5%. That's anywhere between 2.6 and 4 million of this contract, which is more than the difference between his salary in TN! If he's keeping the house here, that means he's paying more for a new place in DC, more travel expenses, etc...

Simply put, I don't think it's outrageous to say that he doesn't seem to get it, in regards to his spending and his actions.

I agree with most everything you said there, but its also very different from "he's a spoiled child and will be broke by 45."

In regards to state income tax, while those are great points, I don't think Tennessee was in ballpark range of the overall guaranteed money going to Albert. I don't know, just my guess.

And as long as he bought his home outright, then buying another in DC really isn't hurting his overall worth. If anything, it should help him financially in the long run.

Randomly I add that I hate the speed boat listed in the article. They are kind of cool to watch roar down the lake, and they are loud... but that's it. They're fast and loud, don't look that great, aren't good for guests... In fact, it would be the last type of boat I would ever purchase. However I am VERY ENVIOUS of the yacht described in the article. And I'll tell you what... if I made 40 million in a profession where my life expectancy is about 55-60... I'm gonna live it up. When he retires he should take that thing down the Mississippi to the coast. I think that would be really cool, to take a boat from Nashville all the way to New Orleans. Kind of a life dream if you will.

I totally agree with you about the speed boat, I just didn't list it.

I didn't say that he is a spoiled child and will be ruined by 45, I just said that he sounds like a spoiled child, and that I'd think that he would be a good candidate to be one of the many athletes who squander their fortune when they have no business doing so. With any kind of sound spending/saving/investing, he shouldn't ever have to worry about money again. However, it sure doesn't sound like he has that kind of perspective. If there's anything that people like Travis Henry, Pacman and Vick can teach us, it's how easy it is to get into serious financial trouble.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with the real estate assessment, as houses like Haynesworth's are actually not as solid of an investment as most residential real estate, because they're so hard to sell for their perceived value. If he's keeping both places for the rest of his life, that's one thing. If he ever gets in any kind of financial trouble and needs to sell one quickly, he'll lose a TON. Also, a lot of high end additions (like the waterfall that was redone three times) don't end up adding nearly as much value as what they cost.
