Probably sums up the fanbase well. He was probably 40 something with no kids, and probably dressed up for book releases. Not a real loss, I doubt.

 

It's absolutely amazing how bitter you can be about the things that you can't appreciate.

Do you really not get how large of a group of people have read or watched these things?

I've known plenty of perfectly intelligent people who read/have read them, most of whom also think that the people who dress up/have theme parties/go to chat rooms (sound familiar?)/etc... are crazy.

If you feel like saying that we're all a combination of Jesse and Kimberly because we like the Titans, and that we should all go kill ourselves, it's the same as the statement that you made above.

 

It's not that serious. Just can't take an adult that reads kids books seriously, unless they're doing it to bond with their kids.

Surely you understand. Would you take someone seriously that cheered for a pop warner team unless their kids were on the team?

 

Hmm, no... no it isn't a "kid's book."

The first two are for young readers, but the readership grew up with the books and JK Rowling matured the stories as they grew up. They get progressively darker and more violent. Not gory or bloody, but dark and violent.

So, not a kid's series.

 

I loved Harry Potter books from 4th grade to 6th grade. I read the first four books and loved 'em... but that was way back when.

I've only seen the first Harry Potter movie.

That's exactly what it is. Simple plot filled with magic and little kids that do kid things, and experience pre-teen happenings while doing kiddie wizzard spells. Evil trees, booger flavored jelly-beans, and a rating of PG even in the most difficult situations.

Say you enjoy it for what it is, but it's still a book targeted at 12 year olds.
It's the new Peter Pan.


I watch Pixar movies with my kids and enjoy them, so there's no real shame in enjoying kids movies. I just think it'd be hilarious if 'UP' was 700 pages long and an adult was reading it.

The problem with your assessment is that there are - get this - 7 books.

7, I know. It's actually a series. The core characters get older and are actually in their late teens and deal with issues such as death and violence.

Yeah, that's alll very pre-teen and kiddie. I remember having to deal with a mass-murderer when I was growing up.
