Are we talking individuals or groups?
Since I can't :grrr::grrr::grrr::grrr:ing stand gangsta rap, I'll have to list some individuals/groups that have the talent to rap about something other than 'wheresmahbiches' or 'bust a cap in someone's @$$', etc.

    Individuals:
-Easy E (exception to the aforementioned gangsta rap statement)
-Snoop Dogg (sings about more than gangsta crap)
    -Tupac (another exception)
    -LL Cool J
-Ice Cube (I still love AmeriKKKas Most Wanted even though it's a bit gangsta)

    Groups:
    -Cypress Hill
    -Bone Thug
    -Too Live Crew
    -Digital Underground
    -Beastie Boys

I vote Dylan of those choices.

Is rap really music? Could've fooled me.......of course Outkast's "hey 'ya" was pretty fun. Black Eye Peas are OK.

The 'music' is, but the lyrics are just somebody talking really loud.
As far as I know, Bone Thugs n Harmony is the ONLY group to sing (rather than just say the words) when they rap; correct me if I'm wrong.

Someone talking really loud? Yeah, it has nothing to do with rhythm, flow, presence, voice, etc- right?
There's tons of rock that we could say is just yelling really loud. But is it not "music"?

    My top 5:

    Big L
    Big Daddy Kane
LL Cool J (how can this guy go unmentioned when people are saying guys like Snoop Dog?)
    Tupac
    Talib Kweli

    Close calls:
Notorious BIG, Rakim, Ghostface killa, Slug, Brother Ali, Master Ace, Nas, Eminem and Jay-Z.
