    specifically Yogi Berra

yeah... I'm a bomber. My grandfather saw to that.

If my boys aren't playing I'll take the Brewers (how can you hate a team that is named after beer?) the Cubs (its like a pity screw really) or the Reds (The Indianapolis Indians were their farmteam when I was growing up... plus my grandfather liked them too)

Football is the love of my life, but baseball is my mistress.

    How bout Brad Penny!

Great game for Phil Hughes tonight. He totally exceeded my expectations. Thing is, he could have pitched another inning too had we not scored 10 runs. If he keeps pitching like that he's going to make it very hard for Wang to get back in the rotation.

I'm gonna wait until he does that for 15 or so years straight, before I "crown him"

I was obviously being a little sarcastic about him being the best player ever, but what he's doing is amazing. He's been about as unhittable as you can get.

I don't think he's a fluke either. He's always had the stuff, just hadn't been able to put it together mentally. And I believe he's still only 24.

I know you were just joking... but those are some tough shoes to fill. First off there is more than simply "fluke's" to worry about. Baseball has some of the worst horror stories of any sport.

Football has Marshal college... but how many great players has the MLB lost in plane accidents? Especially private planes. It should be a league rule. If you play in the majors you are not allowed to be a pilot. It doesn't work out well for them.

Then there is the drug issue. NO, I'm not saying he is on drugs. But its like candy to some of those boys. They are used to it being "o.k" to do and therefore if its not wrong why not down a couple. Lets just hope he can stay away from that whole issue.

Then you have the injuries due to long seasons/bad hops/overexertion/ etc.

So lets say he has survived all of these things... he hasn't died long before his prime in some terrible accident. He hasn't been kicked out of baseball for doing what was generaly supported by the management for years and is now taboo. And last but not least he hasn't had a terrible field accident that leaves him a dollar short of his old game. Even then... as unhittable as it gets? I just don't know. The kids got skills, there is NO DENYING THAT. I just don't know if he is as versatile as some of the greats. One way or the other he's hellsa fun to watch!

just out of wonderment's sake... if I paid you 1,000.00 would you stand in front of him when he threw the ball as hard as he could? Would it take more money to let him hit you? Less? or would do you respect him enough to do it for no money and pure enjoyment of watching him work?

When was the red's farm team in nashville? I remember every time I would walk into the Indy Indians ballpark (my little softball glove in hand, pigtails, and an oversized baseball cap... i was adorable at that age really) and look up at the giant D. Strawberry picture hanging on the wall. I would rub the tip of his toe before sitting down. At 4 you really don't understand the meaning behind "nasty" rumors. LOL.

Jesus, I wasn't saying the guy is literally the greatest player ever. It was a sarcastic post to show how great his season has been thus far. Barring injuries and another mental meltdown, he has a very good chance of having a great career. He was one of the most touted HS baseball players this decade, and has great stuff. He's very young and there's no reason to believe or predict that he's going to die, get hooked on meth, or have his arm fall off. He's not going to win 300 games, but he's going to be a bonified ace for years to come.

I'm not even going to touch the plane crash comments. That's just weird. There have been what, 5 MLB players killed in a plane crash in the past 100 years? Clementé & Lidle are the only ones that really come to my mind, but I'm young so correct me if I'm wrong.

As for drugs, I'm guessing you're talking about 'roids. I think it's safe to say that Greinke isn't juicing. When your stuff is as good as his, you don't have to juice. Besides, the 'roids era is over anyway.
