2009 Draft Official "Call your shots" thread

    Ok draft experts. Man up in here.

    This isn't a "how-you-think-we'll pick" thread. This is your chance to show how good you are at talent spotting.

    List 10 players.

    1st, 3 players that will go in the top-15 and be sure-fire studs in this league.
    2nd, 3 players that are slated to go towards the end of round 1 that you would LOVE the Titans to select.
    3rd, 2 players that you'd like to see the Titans target in rds 2/3
    4th, 2 players that are your super sleepers late in the draft that are hidden gems for whoever drafts them.

    List your 10 players in a clean list like I have and put all your commentary below the list.

    Sleepers
    9. Mike Jones, WR, Arizona State
    10. Jeremy Perry, G, Oregon State

    Commentary:
    I think Maclin is the best WR in the draft and is going to be an instant playmaker for whoever drafts him. Whenever I watched Orakpo he was beating his man. He has a great motor and some special skills. And Andre Smith has the chance to be a truly dominant O-Linemen if his head is on straight.

    I really hope we take Alphonso or Unger. So far as I know they haven't played any games since February and Alphonso was the best playmaker at CB back then. And Unger's versatility is incredible. Heyward-Bey would be a great pick, but I question whether or not he lasts that long.

    My mid-rounders are a couple of explosive athletes from Florida. McKenzie is a tackling machine who fills a need for us and Bruce Johnson has all the skills in the world but has been stuck on a pretty bad team.

    My sleepers are in a pretty deep slumber. Perry missed all of last season with a knee injury, but if his knee checks out, he is almost a 1st round talent. Titans have a history of going after guys like this (Scaife, Little) and we can afford to be patient until he is ready. Mike Jones always impressed me. His QB was constantly rattled, but Jones had great hands and body control and is a pretty pure athlete.

    Nice thread...

    Slated by whom? Anyone not in the top 15 could fall to the back of rnd 1 and even then this draft could take several strange turns.

    And super sleeper as in - no one ever heard of him or someone you think will go in rnd 7 or go undrafted and make a team and do something?

    Exactly. Anyone who has a realistic chance of slipping out of the first half of the first rd is a viable option for us.

    Honestly, from rounds 4 onwards there is hardly anything between players. Did you see ANY mocks that predicted William Hayes as a high 4th round pick last year?

    If you want absolutes, why don't you go with anyone outside the top-12 on NFLDraft Countdown's rankings as a possibility for us, and anyone outside the top-100 on their list as a Super Sleeper.

    Comments:
    Top 3 - I think those listed are the best at their positions.

    End of One - I feel Mack is strategically the smartest offensive move the Titans can make, long-term. Barwin has great versatility and talent, and the Titans can be patient enough to let it develop, and then play Barwin where he will play the best. Clay Matthews is family to this organization, and would probably be able to play for years. Based on longevity, I think Matthews and Mack are probably the best value overall.

    Round Two - Three - Bruce Johnson has everything we were hoping Alphonso Smith and D.J. Moore would bring. Ramses Barden is a top three blocker at the position, which we want (Nicks, Britt) has the intelligence of Robiskie, who we probably won't be in position to draft, has good enough speed (a la Drew Bennett), and is absolutely the best red zone target of the bunch. He will draw coverage. Athletic basketball player-type, I'm looking for the Antonio Gates of WRs here.

    Sleepers - Samuel Allen is Titan-targeted. We often go after the OL we're known to sniff. We don't always get them, but the reports of our interest are almost always legitimate. (Todd Heremans who went to the Eagles is one who comes to mind.) Eron Riley is 6'3 206 and ran 4.30 and 4.36 at his pro day with a 40-inch vertical. Showed great hands as well. Robiskie's skill-set with DHB's numbers. Think about it.
