Gut - Moore is an inch taller than Smith. Smith is the one who's just under 5'9".

Anyway, I start to look at things like this: only so many "top corners." Davis, Jenkins (who I really wouldn't want anyway) Butler are the top three, due to skill and size. Then I'd say you have DJ Moore, Alphonso Smith, Sean Smith and Macho Harris. The first two are almost too slow, but A. Smith ran a 4.5 at the combine, so he's kind of still in there for me -- plus, I love his play. He did have a time in the mid-4.5s, though. Sean Smith has the size and range, and the speed, I think. He's in Griffin's range, but taller. I'm good with that. Macho got a better time, but it was on astro turf. The two Smiths and Harris I would bring in for a workout, A. Smith still has to show he can play despite his size. If I knew nothing else, it'd be the guy with the size and speed.

All that's to say is one guy I thought would be there can't run fast enough to deserve to be there. Then the other guy also couldn't run to his projected 40 time, and is short. The "freak of the bunch" doesn't have a lot of production. Enter the guy that was projected there at the start, but didn't do well until recently in the offseason. So many questions, you got to put the guy there.

So, I'm putting Harris in our round one CB posse. I may even do a mock with him as our #1. Really so many things the Titans would like. Big hitter. Supports run. D-cent speed, but great cutting and closing ability. Nearly 6' tall. My only worry is he's going to cause penalties. Pacman-like emotions. Eh probably not that bad, but, causing penalites turned me off at first.

    Jenkins vs moore.

While jenkins ran a horrible 40 he had an elite cone time which is just as important.

Moore had only the 18th best cone time and along with that 40 time is a no in the first rd.

Perhaps the best athlete at CB for us to draft is sherrod martin who posted a blistering cone(6.60) and shuttle time(3.96) while also posting a sub 4.50 40. At 6'1 198 he looks very similar to michael griffen.

    Well...

I don't think a 4.55 for a 6' CB is horrible. It's not good...but in a zone scheme you can live with it. And a lot of people had him hand timed at about 4.51 at the combine. More importantly, he doesn't play slow, he plays fast. In our scheme, he's the best CB in the draft right now. Butler has more upside, but so did Woolfolk. Jenkins also has an elite 10 yd burst.

Moore is definitely a 2nd rnd CB at best. If he's viewed as only a nickel, he probably drops to the 3rd.

Martin is an extremely athletic S. There are not a lot of S's who make a transition to CB and are above avg players there...usually the other way around. I think Martin is like Griffin and he didn't work out so well at CB. Actually, Martin has very similar numbers to Fuller...I think Fuller's numbers were about the same or a little BETTER and he can only play the nickel...

I'd stay away from Martin cuz I think we have better choices. He's a big gamble to take at CB. He would work out GREAT...or basically be a guy who sits behind Fuller and our S's. Now if you think his downside is taking over for Hope, then he makes more sense...but he's still risky in terms of taking over for Harper.

Gut i didn't do an exhaustive study but i did look at about half the starting CBs in the nfl who have their combine numbers available on nfldraftscout and very few good nfl CBs had those kind of 40 times.

Almost all the top CBs ran a 4.45 or better and many of the best CBs ran better than 4.40. Terrance mcgee of the bills a 3rd rd pick in 2003 is one of the exceptions. Hood for the cardinals is another but who considers him to be top notch.

I'm not bashing jenkins and did not bash him. He is worth a 30th pick.

I'm starting to think that robert ayers is our best bet for the first rd.

Moore's horrible times means he will fall likely to the 3rd round. If you're undersized AND slow and a CB....not a good combination.

I think he will still go in round 2 because he was such a good player.
