    you're absolutely right.

    i didn't think he would be the inside runner he ended up being this year because he never showed he was in college. he broke everything to the outside even when there was a pretty good sized hole where the play was supposed to go.

    he tried that a few times in the preseason and figured out pretty quickly that's going to result in a 1 yard gain at most and didn't do it in the regular season.

    i was pleasently surprised by CJ's running ability but really let down by his shaky hands, i thought it would be reversed.

    why do you keep bringing up all these other guys? i'm not advocating any of them. the only two WRs i would take in the first are nicks and crabtree, and frankly, i hesitate with crabtree because of the stigma against texas tech
    wide receivers.

    i've never been in impressed with heyward-bey or maclin when it comes to playing WR. i think those two, along with harvin, are great athletes without a lot of football skill. then throw in harvin's heal/foot/ankle problems, i just wouldn't touch the guy.

    to be honest, why are we even talking about WRs? we all know we're not going to take one in the first two rounds.

    I have no problem with any of that. If Fisher and Co. think they can get Harvin the ball in space, and that he will be effective, then I'm all for it. Maybe Tennessee's version of Reggie Bush. I have to admit, I like the sound of that.

    Roos and Stewart are the best pair of tackles in the league, they were drafted in rounds two and four. Eugene Amano started this year, he was a seventh round pick. Harris is going to be the next starter for this offensive line, he was drafted in the fourth. Jacob Bell started here for a few years, he was a fifth round pick. Justin Hartwig started here for several years, he was a sixth round pick. Zach Piller, a longtime starter here, was a third round pick and Benji Olson, another long time starter, was a fifth round pick. Jon Runyon was a fourth round pick.

    Since we drafted Bruce Matthews ninth overall in 1983, we have drafted one offensive lineman in the first round. (Brad Hopkins) In fact, since 1983 we've only drafted one offensive lineman in the second round. That was Hopkins' replacement, Roos. The point of all this is Tennessee doesn't draft offensive lineman early, and judging by the success of Tennessee's run game over the last ten years, we don't need to.

    Wow Gut, I don't even know where to start digging through all that crap you just posted.

    First off, I never said Harvin & Maclin weren't good receivers because they didn't have "stats". They aren't good receivers because of the style of offense they played in. Neither one of them were taught how to run precise routes, read coverages, or how to adjust to the game. A big part of making it as a WR in the NFL is what you learn to do in college. STATS MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Just compare Joel Filani's collegiate stats to Eddie Royal's. Big freaking deal that Jeremy Maclin had 7 catches a game. He was running screens, slants and skinny posts 90% of the time. Keep crowning him though, Gut.

    And for Harvin, since you have trouble reading, I discredit him because he plays in a gimmicky offense and is consistently hurt. Would you like to argue against either one of those facts? Sure, he only missed 5 games or whatever, but the cat will get smoked in the NFL if he can't even stay healthy in college. He, like Maclin, NEVER EVER ran an NFL route in college, and NEVER EVER learned how to read a coverage. Those types of players don't transition well to the NFL.

    I never said Maclin and Harvin weren't great athletes, because they are; maybe even the best in this class, but that doesn't make them great WRs. We don't need another rookie WR to ride the pine all year because he can't grasp the concepts of the NFL (especially one that we took in the 1st round). Simple as that.

    Someone that has ran more than 2 routes in his life before college. Duh.

    But according to you, catches and yards are everything. The irony of that is, Kenny Britt has MORE catches and MORE yards than Nicks, and Harvin. And more yards than Maclin.

    And just to play along with your stats game...

    Catches per game..

    Maclin - 7.28
    Britt - 7.25
    Nicks - 5.23
    Harvin - 3.33

    Yards per game...

    Maclin - 90.0
    Britt - 114.25 (wow)
    Nicks - 94.0
    Harvin - 53.66

    For those who want Britt, and I hear he's a 2nd round guy who might make it to the end of one, please tell me about him off-the-field. I heard there were some character issues, but haven't heard what they are exactly. Could anyone shine a light on that?

    I'm not sure. I think he has or had some maturity issues. It may be a major concern, or nothing at all. I honestly don't know. But, I don't think it's anything involving the law.

    He's still very young (20), so I guess he still has some growing up to do.

    I can understand the Harvin concerns about him being a "conventional" receiver, but I don't get it with Maclin. I saw a heap of Missou games this season and have no doubt Maclin can play the role of a conventional receiver.
