<em>Posted by ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky</em> <p>With a tremendous postseason performance that's put such a focus on <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=5528" target="_new">Larry Fitzgerald</a>, Titans fans are seeing the kind of dynamic wide receiver performance they've pined for since the team moved to Tennessee in 1997.</p> <p>Fitzgerald, or even <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=4512" target="_new">Anquan Boldin</a>, the <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=ari" target="_new">Arizona Cardinals</a>' second receiver who was upset by his lack of playing time in the NFC Championship Game, could transform the Titans' offense, adding the playmaking threat to the receiving corps that would so nicely complement the speed out of the backfield with <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=11258" target="_new">Chris Johnson</a>.</p> <p>All of which got me thinking broadly about the AFC South and a different sort of plus-one system.</p> <p>I'm not big on the imaginary, but it seems an appropriate hot-stove question: If each team in the division could add any one player from elsewhere in the league, who would it be and what could he do for his new team?</p> <p>While we'll discuss more than one position for other teams, and perhaps you can sway me here, but it seems the Titans' conversation should be about receivers.</p> <p>Does <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=4461" target="_new">Andre Johnson</a> fit their physical mold best? Does Fitzgerald's youth, ridiculous athleticism and ability to adjust to jump balls make him too good to resist for a team with uncertainty at quarterback in the coming years? Are they both better options than <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=2622" target="_new">Steve Smith</a>, who is smaller and older?</p> <p>I invite you to chime in -- with comments here or notes <a href="http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/mailbagESPN?event_id=21417" target="_blank">to the mailbag</a>. After I see what you have to say, I will make a plus-one selection for the Titans by week's end.</p>

Boldin's ability to get separation on short routes and in heavy traffic, plus his yards after catch ability, would make him ideal, IMO.

What annoys me most about Fish is that we occasionally have chances to get our hands on players who can make a huge impact for us, yet we almost always turn our backs the other way.

Don't get me wrong.. I'm not one who supports building a team through free agency.. but at times players such as Tony Gonzales (who completely fits our system) comes available, yet we turn our heads and look the other way.

With that said.. i really don't buy into this fairy tale imagination.. and Fisher making a strategic pickup by adding 'any one player' (as put by Kuharsky) to solve our problems and take us to la la land. Instead, we'll continue to go by Fish's failed philosophy being 'one man's junk is another man's treasure' and pick up all the 'almost there' and 'could be's' out there while continuing to look the other way when clear solutions to stuff our gaps come forth.

I have no doubt in my mind that if Kurt Warner was our QB, and Tony Gonzales was our TE.. we'd be preparing for the Superbowl right now.

    No Kuharsky.. :suspect:

We need a consistent QB first, and that would mean that we would have to add two players instead of one. 1)Accurate/dependable Qb 2) consistent/dependable Wr

Our pickup should fit our system. Tony Gonzales fits our system 100%. With him in the lineup, look for him to make 110-120 catches per season.

You mean guys like Donte Stallworth and Keyshaun Johnson? We offered Stallworth more than the Pats did. Keyshaun decided to retire instead because he thought Vince couldn't get him the ball, then later rescinded his statement during the MNF game against New Orleans.

Is he going to come in as a backup to Scaife and Crumpler (both of whom Fish would put ahead of Gonz in the depth chart)?

I don't think his mentality is that per se, but the mentality I think he has is just as bad: we've tried to acquire big name WRs and draft WRs with huge potential, but it's not worked out far more than it has and I'm sure it makes the FO a bit skittish. Kinda like a woman who has been in bad relationships; she tends to be weary about getting into another relationship (unless she's slutty w/low self-esteem), regardless of who good on paper it seems. I think the FO is the same way. Getting a big name WR these days is quite a crap shoot really.

I have no doubt that if Crump and LW didn't fumble, and if the D got more pressure on Flucco, and we didn't incur 80+ yards of penalties, we'd be preparing for the SB right now.

He was #2 on my list after Fitz. Boldin would be #3.
