Flat Screen TV Advice...

    I've read some of the past threads, and was hoping I could get some specific advice...

    I'm looking at these tvs right now, and trying to tell a difference that justifies the price jump, can someone explain why one is so much more expensive? I don't know what really matters and what doesn't.

    I have a large living room, so I need a pretty big screen. It gets a lot of natural light, but it's indirect. However, I don't know how to compare these, or if there's something about these models that I'm not thinking about.

    General or specific advice is appreciated.

    I don't know if this happened to everyone, but when the BestBuy page loads there isn't anything to compare. It seems to be leaving out the items you loaded into it!

    the 85 series adds a PC input and bumps the contrast ration to 30,000

    the 46pz85u is now a cool $1330 at Amazon ($300 cheaper than WorstBuy)

    my advice would be to put a few extra bones together and get the 50pz800u (currently $1909 and dropping), which is probably the best TV on the market not named Kuro / Elite

    the 800u features THX certification - (and a setting that puts it within inches of pro standards) and has a solid sheet of glass design which eliminates the "magic mirror" effect associated with stacked glass displays (cheaper plasmas)

    Thanks, Puck. My only concern in buying from Amazon is the set up, since obviously I'm not a tech person. I mean, I can follow instructions, but for instance I don't know if I'd need to buy additional cables to go with this or what.

    I'm considering the 50pz85u. It's hard for me to justify taking that next step right now. Is it something that I'm actually going to be able to appreciate? I mean, I love clarity and quality and all of the distinctions, but I feel like I'm not really going to notice it. I'm jumping up from a 15 year old 28 inch tv, so I feel like I'll be pretty much blown away by anything. Really, I'm looking for quality, value, and reliability. I really appreciate your advice, any other opinions on important things to consider in making this decision?

    really, for that matter ... I'd suggest simply, the 42px80u ... it's 720p, but for anything under 50" or if Blu-Ray or TurboHD aren't in your plans it won't matter

    it's Panasonic's entry-level plasma (which still smokes most others higher ends) and it can be found online for as little as $699 and at Circuit City for $799

    they had this set beside a Pioneer Kuro 4280 a few months back and (even though I notice it) to most people it was hard to tell the difference


    but the 800u series is indeed money well spent, considering the TV will last you about 20 years

    He could get a DVD player that upscales to 1080p though.

    it doesn't matter what your source resolution is if the display cannot display it .... even if he had an upscaling player, the TV would down-convert to 720p .... if he chose the px80
