It was funny 30 years ago when I heard it. The farther we get away from when Morrison (supposedly) died the less funny it is...

At the time, many people doubted he died. Thought he faked it just to get away from the public eye. He was living inconspicuously in Paris. His was one of the earliest conspiracy theories. Now they have since become commonplace.

I guess if you didn't know that, the joke would really not be funny at all.

Just got back, and I must say, this was the best film I've seen since last years spectacular No Country For Old Men. This film defies conventional boundaries of the comic-book adapation; this is entirely new beast created by Nolan and company. This film will be mentioned as such modern-classic crime epics as Heat and The Departed.

I know many film buffs have been waiting for Nolan to create his first real masterpiece (The Prestige and Momento come close in my mind), and this I believe is his first legitimate foray into that category. The themes and characters crafted are so wonderfully executed into carefully woven archetypes that are more complex than you'd expect from any piece of modern cinema, let alone a comic book. While Bale and Eckhart are incredibly solid in this, it is really Oldman and of course Ledger that truly transcend that fine line between great performance and truly special. Believe the hype about Ledger's Joker; he doesn't steal every scene he's in, he steals every single moment he is on screen. His mannerisms, delivery, and overall aura of complete chaos are truly something to behold, and in my mind, one of the most alluring performances by a single actor I've seen in some time. You owe it to yourself just to watch him in his craft and create a character that audiences will be talking about decades from now. It honestly was that good in my mind.

Bottom-line, it doesn't matter how much concern you had about this movie living up to the hype. It will exceed it all and grab you by the collar, demanding more viewings (which I know I'll do down the line).

    Grade: A

What I saw tonight was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It was the best film based on a comic/graphic novel ever. Now I admit I am a comic book nerd. Batman is by far my favorite comic character. I still read the older stuff and even pick up a comic now and then just to catch up on the the happenings in Gotham. Going into this movie I was worried what they would do to the characters that I love so much. I was a little worried that they would take some liberties with the original material(and they did just like in Begins) but all that faded away within the first ten minutes. The Dark Knight blew me away. This is Nolan's vision of the Batman mythology and it was wonderful. This is the retelling of the Batman story for a new generation and I love it. Maybe it will encourage more than a few to pick up a book that inspired this film. Now everyone will tell you how wonderful Ledger's performance is in this film and it is all true. I'm still not sure if it is Ledger's performance or just the fact Nolan wrote the Joker character the way he is and always has been in the books. Everyone will say Ledger played the Joker better than anyone before. I like to think until this film the general public had no idea who the character really was. It is my opinion this was really the first time the Joker has been portrayed correctly on film, but at the same time someone had to pull it off. Don't get me wrong Ledger did great. He really did steal the show. He deserves all the credit and I hope he gets an oscar nod for it. Eckhart was also great. I think he pulled his character off just as well as Ledger. I really hope people pay attention to his character in the film because his story is just as important as Wayne/Batman. The rest of the cast was solid. I really have no complaints in that area. The story was amazing. This was a 2 1/2 hour movie and it did not let up for a second. I could have watched it again tonight. Everyone needs to see this one. A 9/10 however you want to measure it. There is so much I would like to say and talk about but I don't want to give anything away. The Dark Knight IS the best movie so far this year and it will not disappoint. Just go see it.

Along the same vein: If Karen Carpenter had eaten that ham sandwich that Mama Cass choked on, they'd BOTH be alive today.....
