Driving laws are usually made to protect the 'weakest link' those who are not good enough to handle speeding, drink driving, talking while driving etc.

I hate drivers who talk on their phone during rush hour. I usually put down my coffee and newspaper so I can honk at them.

How much do you weigh? I know it sounds like a weird question, but there is a big difference between a 120 pd. woman having 4 beers and a 250 pd. guy(not that's you) having 4 beers.

Yes.. I see it every day. People who are "impaired" by cell phone use.. Improper turns, crossing over lines, stopping at green lights. People so caught up in their call that they have no idea what's going on around them.

Wonder how well any of the folks here who claim they do this all the time would perform on a state driver's test conducted while also blathering on the phone...

I was just trying to make a point (see the quote in that post) - I don't really drink & drive...

    That's the real problem.

It isn't talking on the cell phone while driving that's the problem.

It's the fool that is to wrapped up in his cell phone conversation to fully concentrate on driving that is the problem.

    What quote?

Anyway, drinking is worse than a casual conversation, but some people simply cannot split their attention and may become more dangerous tha drunk drivers. Either way, I voted yes, because of the harm that people do on cell phones.

I also socially despise those blue tooth ear pieces. Folks just walking around talking into thin air like they're hanging out with Jimmy Stewart and his buddy Harvey. Unfortunately most of them aren't nearly as endearing as Jimmy Stewart and whoever they are talking with are rarely as polite as the large rabbit. Also, cell phone use at a cash register or a drive through is incredibly rude and irks me every time I see it. Are we so important now that we can't stop arguing with our spouse long enough to buy an extra value meal and treat the employee with a modicum of respect?

I understand your point about smart people covering the costs for idiots, but if the government would stick to upholding its Constitutional responsibilities given to it by the people that wouldn't be an issue. Maybe we should strive for that.

Just my 2 cents... or maybe it was a dollar's worth. :ha:

Yep. Too many people lack the coordination (using that word very liberally here) to hold a phone to their ear and drive between the lines, stop when they're supposed to, etc.

And while we're at it, can we ban text messaging? Text messaging is by far the dumbest thing I've ever come across. Yeah, lets push buttons for 4 hours to say something we could have wrapped up on the phone in 10 minutes!

Oh my goodness! I've found an issue that I agree with Gloat about!
