    Tediousness...

Let's make your anaolgy more precise. Suppose player 1 runs a 4.45 40 for 10 games but thereafter runs a 4.6. Player 2 runs a 4.40 40 for a single game and then most of the time is injured and can't run requiring you to get a new player. Are you telling me that player 2 is an upgrade even though in the grand scheme of things, he need upgrading so as to make the point of his one game improvement moot?

I'll admit that his ypc was better as long as you admit his total yards and receiving yards were negligly better and his turnovers was much worse....and he couldn't stay healthy enough to be the next staple RB for the Titans.

This is interesting...so suppose Eddie finishes off 2003 as he did and Brown has his 2004 but Eddie comes back and looks slightly better in training camp. Who would you start and who would be the upgrade?

    Gut and Gunny

Are you two really arguing that you would rather have had Eddie as the starting running back in 2004 for the Titans over Chris Brown?

    In 2003 Eddie's stats: 312 attempts, 1030 yards.
In 2004 Eddie was on the same pace, as far as yards per carry.
    In 2004 Chris Brown's stats: 220 attempts, 1067 yards.

I don't know anyone that would rather have a running back simply for the extra 90 attempts you get in a season. Chris Brown was a better back in 2004 than Eddie. Chris Brown will never be as good a back as Eddie was. At that point, Eddie was not the same power running back he was in his prime, Eddie was basically done.

Sure, it took more than one back to replace Eddie for the 2004 season. But are you really arguing that you would've wanted Eddie for that season, and that somehow Chris Brown wasn't an upgrade?

The real point of all this, way back when, was that Fisher plays players too long. I wonder if in 2003, if Eddie got 100 less carries and they were given to Chris Brown, would the Titans running game have been better? That's speculation that can never be proven, but it's not much a stretch, and it's the reason this example ever got brought up.

I don't think it's a great example, because imo, Fisher only played Eddie one season to long, which I don't fault him too much for. It's easier to fault him for a guy like Lamont who started more than one season too long.

I know if I had a choice, of a running back that was would carry the ball for me 300 times, but only get 3 ypc... or I could have a running back that would carry the ball for me 200 times, and get 5 yards a carry... I'm taking the 200 carry back 10/10 times. And I'll get some scrub or whatever to take over the other 100 carries. And yeah, I'll call it an upgrade. For 200 carries at least, it was a huge upgrade!

Yeah, I remember Fisher putting a "guaranteed carries" clause into the contract they offered Eddie before he became a Cowboy. pshhhhhh

Seriously- there was a % of running play carries that Eddie was guaranteed to receive as part of the deal he was offered

I said all along Brown was a better back at that stage than Eddie was, but hell he gave us the same yards rushing than Eddie did.

I would have wanted someone who stayed on the field for an entire game.

Chris Brown played 11 games in 2004.

I'll take 5 YPC for 11 games, and 5 games played by a backup running back; over 16 games at 3YPC every single season 100 out of 100 times.

Wow! Now that is crazy! can't believe they offered that in 2004. Wonder what the % was?

I think if you added up how many quarters Chris Brown played he more than likely played closer to 8 'full' games.
