I mean no offense by what I'm about to say, but I question the intelligence of some posters here.

How is this guy an upgrade? He's one of the few regular backs that averaged LESS YPC than White did last year (3.4 = eugck...). Not only that, but he is a trouble maker off the field (something the franchise needs to steer clear of). And apparently his teammates couldn't stand him. Great, what are we getting again?

Gah, it's frightening to think of some of you guys as part of the FO.

I could be the Biggest Longhorn fan on this forum, And I say HELL NO to Cedric Benson!!!!!

On the field he is too slow to be a breakaway back and too small to be a power back. This is the NFL not college and he doesn't have what it takes to be much more than a situational player.

Off the field and in the lockerroom he is a cancer, he was at Texas and he is in the pros. He has lived with this attitude of entitlement that is down right ridiculous.

He had a baseball contract so he always had money in college and he lived off the fact that defenses were so worried about Vince he was virtually a 2nd thought.

When it comes right down to it, he was overrated at Texas and he is a bust in the NFL for the position he was drafted in.

All first rounders need to be 'damn good', it's not rocket science.

Gunny, all I was saying is I expect him to be. The Titans' first pick is usually pretty good.
It's not like we draft like the Lions.
BTW, someone from Australia named Gunny? Unless you are a former gunnery sgt.,
that cracks me up. You must laugh your a** off at us.

    You'll never get it.

He needs to be damn good to prove his worth because of the many alternatives out there at RB not requiring the use of a first round draft pick.

The same can't be said for many other positions on the field. Hardly any if you actually think about it.

The alternatives all suck (one way or another)

Alexander - i'm not even sure he could run over those guys on pro's vs. joes...

Henry - :/ good talent but he burnt his bridges and is literally 1 suspension away from being out of the league for a year.

Benson - bust. You put Chris Henry in Chicago, and he could have put up those numbers...

Jones - well... I like Jones, but its all hindsight now.

Also, none of those players have CJ's skill set except for possibly Jones, but apparently his knee is worse than I thought, considering he still isn't signed yet.

The thing is, CJ needs to be good not because theres a bunch of fa rbs who just got cut, but because thats why he was drafted in the first place, and he is highly invested in. Those other RBs would be strictly backups (except Henry). CJ is here to do more than that.

Look, if the many alternative were any good they'd be signed. They all have major question marks.

Alexander hasn't been good since his MVP season. He is run down and injury concerns.
    Jones has an injury concern
Benson is a bust, not a good history statistically and no one on his former team liked him.

Benson unclaimed on waivers, now a free agent

Any team in the NFL could have claimed running back Cedric Benson off waivers for the cost of the remainder of his contract. No one did, making him an unrestricted free agent. More...

with the guys that we have given second chances to, is the risk/reward that terrible with Cedric Benson? What if he wakes up and realizes that he has to work again, and starts running like he can? He is worth the risk in my opinion, if he can't handle himself properly in the lockeroom and off the field, then we cut ties. But what if he keeps his nose clean like Tank? Why not?

Other posters already said his college production was due to Vince, he's just as powerful as LenDale, but much quicker and faster, which makes him a better option. Get him in early and see if he can keep his nose clean, dedicate himself and learn the offense.
