    Stats? Sure..

There were 20 backs in the nfl with 35 pass receptions. Among those 20 players half had a higher yards per catch than 7.9 and half had a yards per catch below 7.9. The median ypc was 7.9.

Valid methodology because each player has plenty of catches so as not to distort the group. A back with 5 catches would be meaningless here. The highest ypc in the group was 10. The lowest in the group was 5.4. Only 2 of the 20 players had a lower ypc than reggie bush.

    Interesting career stat.
Chris brown 74 catches for 667 yards.
    Career YPC 9.0.
    31 first downs(42%)

How is bush's 5.7 ypc not that bad when a pathetic flunky POS like chris brown has a 9 yard career ypc?

wow Rolltide. You have made your point. You think he's gonna suck. The response is always either "no he won't", or "wait and see". Its amazing how your comments on CJ go for so long because they spout the same things, just with different "stats".

Why are you so mad that in your mind you won't even wait to see if he will be good or not, instead of making another ridiculous thread to why he's gonna suck.

Please add some variety please, this act has gotten extremely old, extremely quick.

Interesting "Career" stat for Reggie Bush
161 catches for 1159 for a 7.2 yard avg (Receiving)
    312 attempts for 1146 for a 3.7 yard avg

    Interesting stat forBrian Westbrook
    347 catches for 3207 for a 9.0 yard avg
    1014 attempts for 4785 for a 4.7 yard avg

As for Chris Brown, his best receiving season came in 2005 when he had 25 receptions for 327 yards, a 13.1 yard avg.
Of his 5 seasons in the NFL, only 3 did he have more than 10 receptions, one of which was 2005. The others were 2007 and 2004, which he avg 6.7 and 7.4 respectively. Very similar numbers put up by Reggie Bush...in his first 2 years as a pro.
I'm not writing CJ or Reggie into the HOF, but CJ gives much more options than Rice.
If you want to take Brown's 9.0 career avg, you can always root for the Texans.

IF Chris Johnson pans out, look for Lendale to have a huge season this year. Chris Johnson stretches the field horizontally. OLBs and DEs can't pinch inside because of the threat of CJ taking a pitch, a reverse, a swing pass etc to the outside and picking up big yardage.

We didn't have that threat last year and despite everyone talking about "8 or 9 men in the box" one of the biggest issues our running game had was that the 7 core defenders that were in the box were all squeezed in between the tackles because Lendale doesn't have the speed to cut back outside.

Deuce McAllister had a great year statiscally (and we all no how important statistics are to Rolltide) when Reggie Bush lined up in the same offense and would go in motion, or fake a reverse or flare out of the backfield. Think back to the Jacksonville game at the start of last season. Jacksonville were so worried about Vince Young getting outside them, that they left gaping holes in the middle of their defense to overprotect outside running plays by the QB.

And if you have your OLBs playing outside contain and you are still worried about the run up the middle, then you need to bring your safety(s) down into the box and you truly have 1-on-1 match-ups at WR.

There is more than one way to stretch the field, and if Chris Johnson proves to be as good as advertised (and for anyone to suggest a back that put up the #'s he did at college is a track guy is ridiculous) then our offense could be outstanding this year.

It's not hard to get a RB a lot of catches. A couple of planned plays like a screen and a swing pass plus one or 2 dump off receptions equals 3-4 catches a game =50-60 receptions. Forcing a back into the passing offense would mean even more.

We could have got chris brown 40 catches a season no problem had we focused on that. The last 2 seasons we kept our backs into block because we felt vince needed it now i guess he doesn't need that extra protection.

    Thank you maximus..

    With this personell,
    QB-Young
    RB-White
    TE-Crumpler
    WR-Gage
    WR-JMac/R.Williams
    RB (out wide)-Chris Johnson

The scenario you paint basically means CJ is a WR. If he is lined out wide he sure in the hell can't run with the ball. It makes no sense and he is not and will not be a better WR than our 3rd best guy. If you honestly believe that CJ is a better WR than roydell, mccareins or gage you are smoking some good weed. Why not just line up in a 3 Wr set? The only scenario that makes sense is a 3 WR package with crumpler and to have CJ in the backfield as a running and receiving threat.

As for this WR/RB hybrid you say exists please name such a player there is none. Westbrook and LT catch most of their passes out of the backfield. Lining them out wide wastes their ability because what they do best is run with the ball.

RT, you keep throwing Chris Brown's name out there... like it's some revelation to us all that this guy had talent. Over tha past four years we've all watched the guy (ad nauseum :)) ), and are quite aware of his skills. What you fail to mention is that Brown (aka Sir Dingedalot) was unable to stay truly healthy enough to be even a reliable back-up.

Carpy you are making the same mistake maximus made. If lendale is there why would chris johnson also be in there? Johnson is a RB not a WR and you don't suppose that duece had a great year in 06 because he played on a team that threw for 4500 yards do you?

2006 was mccallister's 4th best year in terms of rushing yardage. He once had a season with over 1600 yards and a 4.7 average. Are you daring to suggest that reggie bush suddenly made him a good player?

And now that bush has had 2 straight seasons with a sub 3.8 yard per carry teams won't have to worry that much about his threat to run.

Why in the hell do people think that chris johnson is a wide receiver? Where do you get that? This is the nfl!

Line this guy wide and he ceases to be a runningback because vince can't hand the ball to him. You want to take our star stud 1st rd RB and make it harder for him to get the ball?

If he is successful it will have to be from the backfield where he can be a dual threat. Once he proves to be a solid runner(A subject of contention) then he will be more of a threat as a receiver because teams have to keep the linebackers on the field.
