If someone says they want to be a role model, then they should walk the walk. Not just play the part only when you know people are watching.

Getting drunk with a bunch of guys in college is not the model you would want kids to follow. Sure lots of college kids do it (not all), but if you say you want to be a role model (set yourself above the rest) then you need to actually live the life of one, not just pretend (hypocrite).

It is sad that the man can't go out strip half naked and get drunk with his boys. When my kids look up to someone I hope it is a half naked drunk pro athlete. You know instead of someone deserving of role model status...

I'd be disappointed if my boy went off to college and didn't have a good time partying. That Matt Leinart picture of him pantomining fellatio would disturb me but pictures of my son doing a kegstand at the Sigma Chi or Kappa Alpha house would make me proud... There isn't anything wrong with drinking... There's a time and a place... imagine the uproar if Vince Young had sex? Aren't these role models suppossed to be vestil virgins? Ask yourselves this... what would concern you more? Your 17 year old son drinking or you 17 year old having sex? Unprotected, rubberless, reckless sex? What is this role model **** anyways? Role models are suppossed to be hard workers who win gracefully, never quit... has nothing to do with ordinary adult activities/behavior much less those that are more or less part of a personal life. I don't think role model is a full time job. Expecting Vince Young or any professional athlete to be 100% pure... please... everyone needs a little dirt in their life... being criminally stupid like Pacman is something different... not to many people would be too shocked or hurt if thier adult child, age 23 or so was doing what Vince was doing.

I would have no problem with it if Vince hadn't made the statement "I want to be a role model".

Binge drinking in college is a problem bigger than what you would like to admit. It is not something that a self-proclaimed role model should be doing. If he doesn't want that role, fine, I have no problem. But don't say you want to be a model for how young people should act, then go off and get drunk-*** stupid.

Being a role model is tough, don't volunteer for that job if your not 100% dedicated to it.

Hoffa you keep talking like he's an alcoholic. The guy has had one picture of him drinking alcohol in 7 years of being in the media's eye. I believe being a role model is not for how kids should act right now but how they should act when they get to being his age. Vince has come from the slums of houston who straightened out his life in high school and is now a succesful athlete who has never really got into any kind of trouble. Maybe he's not a role model for the rich white conservative kids but for inner-city youth he's a great role model.

And he wasn't getting drunk with a bunch of college kids. Half the guys in the pictures were nfl players and the other half were former longhorns.

I agree. And I think especially someone VY age (who says he wants to be a role model) should not be acting like that now.

Now that statement borders on racism.

What does it matter who he's drunk with? He was stupid drunk while trying to be a role model.

That's like saying if the former Govoner of NY said he wanted to be a role model, and got caught commiting adultery, it would be ok because he was having sex with a pro, not an emotional affair...

He said he wants to be a role model. He wants to be league-mvp too. He never said, "I am a role model. Do as I do. Tattoo a rose on your body for your mother, your baby sister and your grandmother." I really don't see what the harm in any of those party pictures are. My biggest criticism is that it appears he should hit the weight room. Drunk *** stupid? What did he do? Did he arrange a ride? Do I need to hop over to the smoking gun website and grap one of Steve McNair's mugs? Vince exercised good judgement as an ADULT. He didn't endager society. A grown man went to a party. He was driven home. Nobody got hurt. No one got arrested. It was a good time had by all. Where is the stupidity?

I'm not sure how. If parents want their kid to be totally pure and have ultra-conservative moral values like no drinking then he's probably not the best role model. Most inner-city youth have to battle through more hard times and if they're looking for a role model he's a great one considering he comes from their background. If it's racist to think rich white kids have different role models than inner city youth then apparently i'm racist.
