So "mental pain" is not real pain, and therefore should not play a factor in someone's suicide?

Yet the "mental pain" caused from the suicide of a loved one on all the family members is the entire crux of your argument on why it is bad?

That doesn't seem right. And before you say something.. Yes.. I have experienced plenty of "physical pain" in my life and I understand there is a difference. Doesn't change the fact that your entire argument is hypocritical.

According to Rush Limbaugh, Robin Williams killed himself because he was a liberal.
I want to kill myself when I see Rush Limbaugh's pie face.

LOL par for the course for Alex.

I really don't get why he can never follow a simple conversation and insists on putting words into people's mouth. I guess he just does it because he has no logical retort. So he twists your words in a pathetic attempt to make your stance look absurd. I guess he thinks no one will notice (?). Unfortunately for him we all passed the 3rd grade and have enough reading comprehension skills to not fall for it.

I think it's a real problem if you all agree with this statement (except for the doctors part):"The bigger issue here is that he likely wasn't getting enough help from his family, friends, and doctors." - that is a direct quote from RSB.

Blame the family and friends but not the person that took the action? Personal Responsibility is a factor.

I'm talking about the difference between pain that you can recover from vs. pain you can't. I suppose it's subjective the difference between mental and physical pain so I will take back my statement.

If you are reading this and have suicidal thoughts from a mental illness, DON"T KILL YOURSELF. Talk to someone and seek professional help.

The REALITY is, if one kills himself, it causes harm to his loved ones. Most often harm that will last their lifetime. I apologize if that is hard to hear for some, but it's the truth.

I don't necessarily agree with that. Doctors can only do so much. Friends and family can certainly only do so much. Where we differ I guess is that I think that SOMETIMES there's also only so much the sick individual can do as well. They're mentally ill after all. They aren't thinking rationally and their emotions and thought processes are not functioning normally. Yes, they may die by their own hand but it was their dysfunctional brain which led them to make that decision. I don't see what's so hard to comprehend about that. Their brain failed them. Much like the heart of someone born with a heart defect may eventually fail them.

You keep making it out as if the brain of someone who is mentally ill functions the same way yours does and therefore should follow the same logic you do when you're sad/depressed/upset. It doesn't work like that. You clearly know very little on this subject yet that's not stopping you from climbing upon your soapbox and telling everyone what's what.

Yea, that's a big issue... it doesn't seem that he was getting much help from anyone. Maybe nothing could have been done. We don't know.

I'm not directly blaming anyone for his death. I don't know all the details, but this is often the issue... these clinically depressed individuals don't have anyone to talk to, and no one understands them. Maybe friends, family, doctors could have been more involved. That's all I'm saying. Not saying it's their fault he's dead.

We don't know what was going on inside his head. And we never will.

If you are an expert in the field then I'd like to see the credentials cause pretty sure you aren't trained either. This is a forum, I'm just using it.

Not every mentally ill person commits suicide and not every suicide is from someone with a serious mental illness.

Regardless, a suicide is a "selfish act" by definition and negatively effects loved ones.

Never said I was an expert. But I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying I'm more familiar with the subject than you.

True. But the risk of suicide among the mentally ill is higher than "normal" people. So, are mentally ill folks just inherently "more selfish" than the rest of us? Because obviously we know it's not the illness that is driving them to kill themselves.

Yes, it negatively affects loved ones. Don't believe that was ever disputed by anyone here.
