When he’s been well, Titans linebacker Colin McCarthy has been a solid presence on defense.

His problem has been he hasn’t been well enough, and it will be another year before he gets another chance.

According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean, McCarthy appears headed for season-ending shoulder surgery.

He’s still going to get a second opinion next week, but it appears the injury suffered last week against the Packers is a serious one.

McCarthy was making a transition from the 4-3 to a 3-4 defense anyway, so it was going to be an uphill climb for the former team captain.

Now the climb’s at least a year longer.

Shoulder injury might be about as bad as it gets for a LB.

Too bad injuries have ravaged McCarthy. He was a very good football player. It happens though. Some guys just don't have any luck. Really don't think McCarthy was ever the same player after the serious concussion anyway. Anytime a player is out of action that long with concussion symptoms, he should probably find another line of work. I wish Colin nothing but the best in finding another way to support his family. Football just isn't going to work out for him going forward. Sad.

He's had about as much luck as Derrick Rose in the past 2 seasons.

Worse really. Derrick Rose can continue his career as a great player after what he's been through. Colin most likely won't.

It's so unfortunate because I really think he could've been something special, or at least a consistently "solid presence at defense" (as the article put it) if he could've stayed healthy. But it is what it is. I just hope our other brittle player can finally shake the bug and not suffer the same fate.

    Meh IDK about McCarthy.

Rookie year looked promising, but once they put him in control of the defense somehow Moise Fokou gets a starting gig with us.

agreed. he is a bum. He was a 1/2 year wonder. It happens all the time. One in a long line of players.
