Disturbing stuff, to say the least. Be warned.

We've all seen drivers who are wrecked come out on the track to point or throw their helmet at the driver they're blaming. I think it make for great TV and NASCAR has turned a blind eye most of the time. A shame it came to this. I expect new rules which say drivers must stay in their car until help arrives or face huge fines.

Couldn't give a crap about auto racing but that's very sad to see. The guy died apparently.

Not being a race fan, my first thought was "What an idiot to run out in the middle of the track like that". But if that's a common occurrence then yeah, NASCAR and other racing organizations should've nipped that in the bud a long time ago.

Dude had it coming. So retarded to run into the middle of a race track. They might be under caution, but they're still going 60-80 mph.

I mean. What did he think would happen?

That is scary to see. And TE is right. That guy put himself in that situation.

Listen. I am a big nascar fan and have been since the late 90's. Tony Stewart knew damn well that he was trying to "send a message" when he gunned the throttle as he went by Ward. I've long said drivers should be heavily punished for walking out on the track to let a competitor know how they feel under caution. I always felt someone would be killed eventually if it continued to go unpunished. Unfortunately, I was right. Ward was stupid to get that close on foot like that, but he would have been completely unhurt if it were most any other driver in that car. Stewart meant to scare the kid and essentially say, "don't mess with me boy!" When you hit that throttle in a sprint car, you're back end swings out. Tony Stewart knew his car would swing toward Ward when he hit the gas. He may have felt it wouldn't hit him. I would like to think he felt it wouldn't hit him. If he did, he was wrong though. Did Tony hit that gas with the intention of killing Ward? I sure hope not, and I seriously doubt it. Did he do something very stupid that probably is worthy of being held criminally responsible for Ward's death in some manner? Imo, yes.

I've seen drivers (including Tony Stewart more than once) get out of their cars and approach vehicles under caution many, many times. I have never seen a driver go right next to the one on foot, and hit the throttle as he went by. To anyone who doesn't watch racing much, Tony Stewart hardly seems entirely innocent here.

    1. Tony drove right up next to Ward. Obviously, he should have drove to the bottom of the track away from him.

    2. He hit the gas as he went by. No excuse for this at all! This could only have been either an attempt to injure or scare the driver and is far too dangerous for a driver to ever allow himself to lose his cool and do.

If I walked into the middle of the interstate... and some car swerved and hit me, or hit me by accident...

    Who is blaming the driver?

Guy did something thoughtless. Hard to pin it on Stewart, regardless.

I am always worried about accidentally killing a biker on some of those country roads in Williamson county. Some of them are so ****ing stupid it drives me insane. And what really gets me is some of these roads have sidewalks or bike paths specifically designed for them and they won't use them. They'll take up the whole lane. Share the road, my ass. GTFO of my way.

Awful what happened to this guy, but he had it coming... why the hell would you ever walk out on the track like that???
