If tackle Taylor Lewan was waiting to find out whether he’d be standing trial on charges stemming from an alleged assault on Ohio State fans before signing his rookie deal with the Titans, the former Michigan Wolverine is free to go ahead and put pen to paper.

Judge Elizabeth Pollard Hines ruled in Ann Arbor on Thursday that Lewan will stand trial on aggravated assault and assault and battery charges on Thursday, October 28. Jury selection is scheduled for the previous day and Lewan’s trial is not expected to be an extended one. Lewan’s attorney John Shea also said that a settlement is possible before the trial date, but he doesn’t seem to be expecting one.

“Who knows what the future holds, but [a trial] is what we’re assuming,” Shea said, via MLive.com.

The trial date falls during the Titans’ bye week, so Lewan will not have to miss any work with the team in order to attend the court proceedings. Lewan is one of the few remaining 2014 draftees without a signed contract, although there’s no real reason why it shouldn’t be taken care of before camp gets underway.

Lewan is charged with striking two Buckeye fans outside the Brown Jug restaurant in Ann Arbor, although he and his attorney say he was just breaking up a fight.

Great. #1 draft pick needs a distraction like this. I have big hopes for this guy, now that he's ours. Thing is, this was known. I think he should have been avoided.

I know I know, spilled milk.

In the grand scheme reading the articles Riverman posted this doesn't seem like a big deal. The guy went to the hospital but had injuries other than pain and tenderness?

Downside of being famous. I'm glad I didn't have this attention in college nor was the internet and the media this pervasive.

Unless I'm missing something from this story...

Won't be a big deal. We knew about this when we drafted him, so I assume it'll be fine.

So this guy blew a .197 and can tell without a shadow of a doubt who threw punches. I call BS.

.197 ain't really that much - unless you're behind the wheel.

That's probably the equivalent of 6-7 beers in an hour. So yea, you'll be feeling good, but you'll still be coherent - if you have a higher tolerance.

Think the judge is giving us to October to see how he pans out.

Wonder if he will get off over it. As they all seem to do. Really the guy hopefully will put his troubles behind him and put it out on the football field. And be a role model as well.
