    Scary

Cottonmouths can be deadly if you get tagged by a big one and are far enough away from help.

I spend a lot of time in the woods down here.

Nothing worse than moving through heavy stuff and hearing this.

It has only happened to me twice and both times I about needed new underwear.

I see copperheads all the time.

I don't think I've ever seen a cottonmouth in the wild.

I'm sure plenty have seen me though.

Australia catches a lot of jokes for everything wanting to kill you but America ain't much better.

    In Alabama alone we have

    Multiple subspecies of rattlesnakes
    Cottonmouths
    Copperheads
    Coral Snakes
    Alligators
    Brain eating amebas
    Alligator snapping turtles
    Black widow snipers
    Brown recluse spiders
Pretty much all the sharks in the gulf
    Box Jellyfish in the Gulf
    Bears
    Cougars??? Maybe...
    Tornados left and right
    Hurricanes

Not to mention rabies which Australia doesn't have to deal with.

I grew up on 14 wooded acres, to this day I am still stunned I never walked upon anything that close.

They say cottonmouths are not in the middle TN area, I've seen some, so......believe what you want there.

    Seen several snapping turtles.

Rumor has it, cougars are also in the middle TN area, I'm not sure if I believe that just yet. Terrifying if true.

Cougars were native to Alabama at one time but are supposedly all but gone.

Still they are seen occasionally or pop up on trail cams.

Supposedly they are making a return in this area if the country.

People also have kept big cats as pets and turned them lose so that might account for the rare sighting of a mountain lion or big black cat that seems to be on the news every month or so.

I used to run the hills when I was in CA, and always carried a knife on me. Probably would not have done **** but it was better than nothing.
