if it were up to all of us, Whitehurst would have never been picked up anyway.

But it isn't, unfortunately. Whisenhunt likes Whitehurst, and he's gonna be here. Whether we like it or not. We don't.

And the trend is to bring in certain players who have specific specialties making it even harder.

The last QB to come out of the CFL and do even reasonably well was Jeff Garcia. Doug Flutie before him -- who actually started out in the NFL. The last QB to come out of the CFL and star in the NFL was Warren Moon. Not a good place to go if you want a QB.

    Goot lawd.

Sure, there's a chance but, like how many feel injury concerns means Locker will fail, you have to also account for injury history and off-field stuff with Mett when drafting him. He was drafted where he was for a reason. Now we get to see if he can prove he should have been drafted sooner.

Look, I didn't want Mettenberger at all during the pre draft process. To me it was Carr, Teddy or bust. I got the news we drafted Mett through my NFL mobile app so I thought we took him over Murray and was pretty pissed but after seeing Murray was gone and actually watching Mett's tape, which I didn't do pre draft I've changed my mind on him totally. It's not like I'm an LSU fan or deluded Titans fan trying to justify the pick, I'm going purely off of what I see on his game tapes. The kid can play.

Just posting stats doesn't work for me because stats don't account for missed assignments, bad timing on the WR's part, dropped balls, throws that likely would've been caught but PI occurred, bad holding/out of bounds calls, etc. You gotta watch the games and what I've seen from him has sold me on the pick. Again, I'm not saying he's the savior but I will say this; he looks MUCH better to me than Jake coming out of Washington against better competition.

Or the combination of his talent, abilities, off-field issues, injury concerns, etc. kept teams from drafting him before then. Let's face it, none of the guys you mention are seen as franchise QBs and most teams had too many needs to throw a mid-round pick at a prospect who is most likely to never be more than a backup.

    Gonna say it again.

If they Locker knockers had been fans of this franchise in the mid-90s they would have given up on Steve McNair. Not everyone is a star right away. Some guys take time.

That is true. But a lot of QBs start off as bad or worse than pre '99 McNair, and never become any good whatsoever. McNair is an anomaly. Most Qbs who underwhelm from the beginning, stay underwhelming.

Every once in awhile, a light turns on in a player's 4-5th year.. but it's not very often. By then (as we saw with mcnair) their career is almost halfway over, or more. McNair's first 4 years of junk in the NFL are the very things that separate him from a HOF QB.

IMO, a player in the NHL has a luxury of waiting 5 years to develop, because they're 18-19 years old, and have a longer career longevity.

NFL players don't often have that ability. If you have to wait 5 years for a QB to come around, then IMO, you took the wrong QB. By a QB's 2nd year, he should really be showing something. Time is short in the NFL. Mac wasted his best years.

You clearly did not watch that game. Mettenberger struggled???? Exactly how? The first INT, the WR ran the wrong route. The 2nd INT waso tipped. He threw for 328 yards and 3 TDs.

    What Nick said.

In 2014 no franchise is waiting 5 years for a QB to figure it out.

Especially one that you used a top 10 pick on.

    McNair was not the norm.
