Before the draft on this board, I don't recall any mention of Sankey or Lewan. Not saying nobody said anything, just almost no one.

Didn't know either player when they were drafted.

They were both generally regard by draft experts as top 2-3 at their position.

Yes. Draft experts. Not any fans I know.

The "casual" fans were entirely swayed by media.
We've been down this road before where a few board members including The Gloat were pretty outspoken in their beliefs that they could come in off the street and HC a pro team better than many (then) existing staffs..

Well, then perhaps you and the fans you know don't follow college football of the NFL draft prior to it actually starting. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Follow what you want to. I follow both and was very familiar with both. In fact, I felt Sankey was the best RB in the draft. He was the 1st taken when we drafted him. Lewan I would ranked 2nd at LT. Which is were he went when we drafted him as well.

Dude. I was agreeing with you against what DW said.

Why does it feel like you're almost debating my agreement..?

I'm not. I was simply letting you know that the guys we drafted are widely regarded as great prospects and gave you my opinion of them as a guy who really follows college players closely. You made it seem as if you were unfamiliar with college players and draft prospects. That's all. I'm not debating you agreeing with me. Things can be interpreted incorrectly very easily with internet text.

I'm very surprised to see all the hate this pick got. The way I see it...we have a solid 5 at offensive line for the foreseeable future. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, offensive line has been our biggest weakness as a team for the past 2 seasons. Really, since Kevin Mawae left after the 2009 season we haven't been the same. This FO has shown a determination to fix that. There are what, 8-9 really solid, reliable, workhorse LTs in the NFL? We just grabbed a long term starter, and now have 3/5 2015 OL starters in their second or third year. With solid veterans too. I liked this pick to begin with. Paired with Bishop, I love it. Whether it's Jake or someone else, our QB of the future has a lot of weapons and a lot of protection to work with in the next 5 years. Color me very excited. #bigpicture

    Exactly.

If they knew more than scouts, they would be in the NFL, not on a message board pounding their chest because they guessed a few picks right.

No, it's really not. You're part of the problem here. You place scouts on a high pedestal when they know nothing more than you or I.

I know "scouts" that do it as side-work because they're part of a coaches social circle... some even still in college. It's not their "passion". It's something they do because they had a connection to do it. Just like we would.

I'm about to show you how little NFL scouts know. Some of the things that even the dumbest casual fan would avoid:

    Jamarcus Russell
    Tim Tebow
    Johnny Manziel
    Vince Young
    Matt Lienart
    Matt Jones
    Alex Smith
    etc
    etc
    etc

Sorry. Any professional that couldn't easily look at anyone on that list and say "This guy will suck at the pro level" is no better at evaluating talent than any other Joe Schmoe.
