I'm not telling you what music to listen to. Music is, especially hip hop, subjective in a lot of ways. To me, Kanye is the best rap artist I've had the pleasure to listen to. I know it is hard hear that because of his personality, loud mouth, ridiculously excuse for a wife, but take Kanye-the person out of the equation and you have an amazing professional.

TK I will listen, because I am open minded like that. I think JC was saying he knows people that would say Pac and Big were better than em...Maybe influentially or hit wise, people may like them better (I like Big more than Pac personally) but I respect them both big time. That being said, neither of them touch Em lyrically...He is a freak of nature....

Yep, they are dope but just because an artist comes out before another doesn't mean they can't be positively influenced by someone new. Common and Jay-z were both doing their thing well before Kanye came out. Yet Kanye still pioneered Hip Hop in a completely different direction at the time and we've seen the rippling effects.

Anyways, I'd love to continue this fun debate but I got to get to work. TBC :)

Yep I agree. I'm also a Big over Pac fan myself and that is just because I personally liked Big's style. He was ahead of his time with his flow and lyrics.

This forum needs more metal heads instead of this circle jerk about dudes trying to string together a few rhymes. If thats your thing why dont you guys bow down to shakespeare or something. I bet if you go to walmart and buy an electric keyboard for $20 and hit the demo function and read his poems you'd be the next big thing.

Music comes in all shapes, forms, and fashions.

Having an elitist attitude over someones preference of music, is just beyond stupid.

if Metal is your thing, why dont you go and listen to CJ interviews since you cant understand half of what he says either. (see what I did there??? And Im a metal fan)

I love metal, doesn't mean rap/hip hop is not in spin regularly.

Most poems also don't have the timing/syllables per line to fit in a bar correctly.

Writing a poem is completely different when you are working to fit it artistically within a beat. Different timings, flow, speeds, chop, syllables - entirely a different beast.

Maybe you've read lyrics/rap/verse before without ever hearing the song, often unless the scheme is very very Kanye basic, you tend to wonder what the flow was like over the beat. Then once you hear it - it's damn near magic how the lyrics transcend the music.
