If we went back in time 15-20 years and showed them the new Ford Focus people would sh*t their pants.

That's kinda how time works. Doesn't say anything for the product.

2 movies that suck balls harder than anything else that's come out recently (that were in theaters at least)

I'm not saying 'I' liked them, I am just saying they were new at the time.

That's true. But still, for that same $10 you have access to TONS more content than just 10 movies. It all boils down to what your entertainment priorities are and what you value the most. If you are mostly concerned with new releases then maybe you're better off with Redbox. But me personally, there are rarely more than 2-3 new releases per month I'm interested in seeing, much less 10. Again, everyone has to decide what X service is worth to them. If Netflix doesn't have enough content that interests you, so be it. But no one should be acting like it's not a good value in general. It's not too hard to find enough content to justify $8/mo. At least not for me. There are enough TV shows alone on there I'm interested in to keep me busy for well over a year. But I guess it all depends on what interests you and how fast you consume content.

Netflix is probably the go to place for documentaries as well.

I think you completely missed the point. Point is, 10+ years ago this model for consuming content was not even available. Back then you were either renting movies from the local video store for $3+ a pop, or buying them on DVD for $10+ a pop. It all comes back to value. 10+ years ago you would have thought the content available via Netflix versus the price was an AMAZING value. Now, people are used to it and spoiled. I think you have to try to keep things in perspective. There STILL is not another service at that price point that offers more content than Netflix. And if there is someone please clue me in.

If you've seen and/or are not interested in everything on Netflix then I'd say you spend way too much time watching movies or else you're just extremely picky. I could watch nothing but Netflix and be taken care for a very long time. But the thing is, at that price point it isn't meant to be your "end all, be all" source for entertainment. You pair it with Hulu. You pair it with Redbox. You pair it with Amazon. IDK, just seems to me that people are expecting way too much for their dollar these days. You literally could not have bought ONE decent, new movie on DVD 10 years ago for what a month of Netflix costs.

Ehhh... true, but having tons of garbage doesn't mean you have something. You know?

Technology evolved, but still.... no excuse for their piss poor selection.

Anytime we think of a movie we want to watch, we have now just given up. We don't even search Netflix anymore, because we know it wont be there. Literally- not ONE movie I've ever thought to search for is on there. Insane.

Better off with "on demand" services, redbox, or renting from an online source.

The only thing Netflix is good for is TV series and Documentaries. And only nerds watch documentaries.

I consider Netflix to be hands down, one of the best values out there.

I don't have cable, watched all of Breaking Bad on Netflix this past year. BB would have been worth buying on DVD if it hadn't been available on Netflix. Its about $22 a season on Amazon Instant Video. Hands down, its easily worth $120 a year.

You also have to think about how expensive it is to buy movie rights. Thats the reason concessions at movie theaters are so high.

It's only "tons of garbage" in your hyper-critical (except when it comes to Munch ;) ) perspective though.

I will say, I somewhat agree with you on the movie selection in that more often than not what I'm "in the mood for" is not on there. But again, you can't really expect that for 8 bucks a month. They have to pay distributors for their catalogs. So in order to have most of what you want to watch most likely they'd have to be charging $40+/month for a subscription. And then everyone would be bitching about the outrageous subscription fees. Again, it's meant to be a portion of you monthly entertainment... not all of it.

If you don't like documentaries or most TV shows then yeah, Netflix probably isn't for you.
