This is modern day slavery. Not the NFL:

The average lower-middle class or working poor person is much closer to "slavery". I do agree these guys aren't getting a fair piece of the pie though. Something will be done.

In that case then they really owe the school because they will be receiving an education they didn't earn and likely don't deserve.Tons of true students who put in the work in high school are unable to access a college education solely due to money every single year. Why should I feel bad that a dude who skated by because he could dribble a basketball or throw a football isn't getting a full ride?

Not if they don't graduate. That's what I'm getting at. The majority of NFL starters never graduated.

Not to mention anyone can get a student loan. So this whole crap I can't afford a college education is a bull **** lazy excuse.

Which brings me back to choice. You will never be able to escape the fact that it's these guys' choices not the system that is leading to guys entering the NFL without a back up plan. These guys CHOOSE to take easy majors that will not yield them a profitable career and then they CHOOSE to leave school earlier than they should so in essence they are CHOOSING not to graduate.

Now think about this; smart guys like Larry Fitzgerald take a tiny fraction of their new found wealth and use it to go back to school and finish their degree since credits don't expire. What exactly is stopping other guys from doing the same? You're painting a false equivalency in which the players have to choose their professional career or their education and this is imply not true.

I hate to speak generally but a lot of these guys are people who don't really value education or the doors a quality education can open for you. This is partly why they don't feel properly compensated. They see the free education as something they are entitled to, not a valuable gift of an opportunity. We're partly too blame since we've all collectively devalued the idea of a serious education.

And of course many students can decide to take on mountains of debt that will be a weight around their necks long after they graduate. That's exactly what I did and after earning my degree I don't regret it but I would have killed for the opportunity to get the same degree for free. These guys are getting the same opportunity many of us would have killed for and spit on it by acting like it's meaningless. That's bull**** in my book.

They earned it the opportunity to get it for free. Therefore they are entitled to act likes it's meaningless just like they are entitled to stay for 4 years and graduate like you said. However many of them know even if they do get the degree they still aren't valuable in the workforce because they are just plain dumb. All they know is football and they understand that. Therefore they try to get in the league as soon as possible in hopes of making a lot of money.

And just a little FYI after a certain number of years credits do expire due to knew curriculum's and what not.

Thanks for the info on credits. I'll look into how long they last before the expire. Please realize that nothing you said disproves anything I said. At the end of the day no matter how much we twist and turn the issue it all comes down to young men making foolish choices and ending up in a situation where they fear life without football because they failed to prepare themselves and had too little foresight. These guys not only have options but they have more options than many of us Joe Schmos will ever have. They're not slaves modern day or otherwise. They're not even indentured servants.

    What a dumb stereotype.

So now football players are dumb? What is this high school?

Even if that ridiculous statement were true, these guys get millions of guaranteed money to play a sport. The compensation is way more than fair for what they offer.

And NFL players can basically get a job anywhere doing anything if they can't hack it in football. One of the biggest perks of fame is the network you build. If ESPN had a job opening for a football analysts, do you think Joe Schmoe with an MBA in Communications is going to get that job over Vince Young? Hell no.

The thing is you have to be famous first. The people I'm talking about are the ones who never amount to anything and are out of the league in 4 years.

4 years in the NFL mean failure to you?

1-2 guys on each HS team plays in college. 1-2 guys on each college team play in the pros

of the above groups less than half of each are starters. Of the starters there are multiple reasons why guys might not make it to year 5.

I dont know but I would guess less than a fourth of the guys entering the NFL in any season see year 5 in The League. I just cant imagine it even being that high really

Its one of the reasons all loser teams complain about being too young
