This front office is incapable of not overpaying free agents. This one is particularly bad. That's a laughably huge contract for a below-average player.

I'm rapidly losing faith in Webster's abilities as a negotiator.

So first $4.5mil was too much guaranteed money for McCluster and now $9.5mil is too much guaranteed money for Oher...

I wasn't high on Oher and was worried we would overpay. I actually don't consider his contract to be very expensive. That's about the average contract for a veteran OT. He's never missed a game.

He was undeniably bad last season, but he has had success in previous years. Also, how much of it was his fault? Maybe most of it was, but Rice was absolutely horrendous last season and that will negatively impact OL grades... I'm not suggesting it was all Rice's fault, but I doubt Oher is as bad as his grade suggests.

He's an average player IMO. Fair contract. Better than what we had.

I don't love this move but it's really not that bad.

9.5mil guaranteed means he'll earn that in 2 years, if he sucks we can cut our losses.

He's durable, and is definitely an upgrade over the last 2 years of David Stewart.. I really don't think Oher is as bad as some are making it seem.

Plus, this thankfully eliminates OT at 11. I'm not opposed to drafting OL, but OG last year at 10 & OT at 11 this year would really bother me.

best pass rusher at 11.. Barr.. Mack would be sweet. Maybe we are a sleeper for a QB or Justin Gilbert.

I like the signing. 9.5 is a lot, but he was going to Oakland next and the way they are spending, he wasn't coming back if he left.

Essentially, we trade Stewart for Oher and gain 1 million in cap space

    Yes.

And Greene got too much. And Levitre got far too much.

    It all adds up.

I don't see how we overpaid. All he's guaranteed to make the next 2 seasons is 4.75 per season. By the time year 3 rolls around he'll be 30 and his replacement will likely be on the roster. I thought McCluster was over paid initially but the details of his contract make it clear that the deal is largely incentive based. The only way to think Oher got overpaid is if you think he sucks (for which there does seem to be some evidence). If he is even serviceable then we got good value because even decent OTs make more than 4.75 per year on the open market.
