Wimbley's deal is structured in a way that it doesn't really make sense to cut him. He was pretty productive for how little he played last year and I don't think the chances of getting a better pass rushing vet for the same money is very good....

Stewart needs to go. He's too slow to even hold any more.

We should hold CJ and try to trade him for a loaf of bread, no reason to cut him loose just yet. We gain nothing by flat out cutting him.

But we need to do ourselves and Stewart a favor and let him go asap

No need to make any cuts until we need to. Even after signing Ropati we still have 8mil in cap space. That is enough room to sign at least 1 or 2 more decent players given how contracts are usually back loaded.

Once you have Stewarts replacement signed then cut him.

    Nailed it.

When you work out a contract for a free agent you release someone to make room. You'll probably see a guy like Stewart cut and then two guys signed immediately because their 2014 numbers will be smaller than his would have been.

Stewart isn't going to be the starting RT in 2014. No way. Just cut him now. They've already waited too long IMO. 8mil in cap space is nothing. We need to cut Stevens & Stewart now, that brings our cap space to 17mil.

There's something about increasing the cap space if we hold CJ until June 1. If we cut him now, we get ~$2M. If we wait till June, we get ~$4M.

It also helps us continue to negotiate a new contract with him. He will be playing somewhere next year, but he's not going to get 1st day FA money. By June, the OTAs will be gearing up, and teams will start to gel. Maybe the Titans FO thinks this will affect his value.

I don't know why the Titans would release anyone until they have their replacement signed. There are a lot of other teams which will do the same.

I agree with you, but some people feel that it is more fair to the player to go ahead and release them now so that they have a fair shake at signing a decent contract somewhere else. This type of move is seen as goodwill towards the player and might make the FO appear more player friendly to other FAs who might be looking to sign.

CJ held us hostage with his hold out. Now we hold all the cards and I have no problem holding onto him as long as we can.
