Ive tried several times to discredit Verner, but couldnt do it. I was building a case as to why we should not re sign him, and failed.

I still think he is risky, but maybe I am gun shy. I know he gets beat deep at times, sometimes pretty bad, but every CB gives up some plays.

I just dont want him to get paid 10 million a year here

Because Finnegan's only positive is that he was "feisty." He never really was a great player, just a charismatic character. Verner earned his praise.

They both could flame out on their next destination.. but Finnegan's biggest selling point is that he ran his mouth, and drew media attention. After that 2008 miracle regular season.. he never was truly great.

And that 2008 D-line could make Nick Harper look like a Pro-Bowl corner.

Man, I know we haven't seen a product yet, but I really hope the key pieces of this staff stick around for a while. SB baby.

You'd be ignorant to think Verner isn't our best CB, but I know you're just trying to get a rise out of me.

I can buy the arguments as to why it's worth resigning Verner, but you'd be delusional to think Verner is better than McCourty. :biglaugh:

Verner is easily the better corner.

I mean, its pretty obvious he is the second best player on the team right now.

McCourty is in my top 5, or right outside of it. Verner is going to be the new Tillman.

    Last 4 years:
    Verner- 51 passes defended 11 INT's
    McCourty- 49 passes defended 8 INT's

I'd say they are pretty even. Verner has put up good numbers since he has been here he is behind the "elite" cornerbacks over the past 4 years when it comes to PD and INT's but Verner is a top 10 corner and J-Mac isn't far off that. We have two really good DB's.

    Verner 5'10 187 ran a 4.52 40 yard dash
    Haden 5'11 190 ran a 4.52 40 yard dash
So the "small and slow" argument kinda goes out the window with that.

As far as McCourty and Verner compare to the "elite" guys:
    Sherman in 3 years- 57 PD 20 INT's
    Haden in 4 years- 67 PD 13 INT's
    Peterson in 3 years- 42 PD and 12 INT's

I was a believer that Verner just had a good year and probably wouldn't repeat it, but after looking at it, he did have some pretty solid numbers across the board. I hope he is back for us next season.
